It actually wasn't bad...especially compared to some of the garbage that has come out recently. I've heard Cabin in the Woods was pretty good too but I have yet to see it.
Cabin in the Woods is great. Highly recommend that. You have to understand what your walking into though. It's not traditional horror. It's pretty much satire. In that same mold, Tucker & Dale vs Evil was pretty good too. I enjoyed the Fright Night remake, but I wouldn't say it was that great.

I actually enjoyed the Possession. I found it to be the best "exorcism" type of movie out of all the other ones that have come out lately like "The Last Exorcism", "The Devil Inside", "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." Of course nothing will ever touch The Exorcist but out of all the recent ones, the Possession might be the best one out of all of them IMO...

The Cabin in The Woods is more funny than it is scary.

I didn't like Tucker & Dale much. The gimmick got old quickly.

Yea. Didn't mean to crap all over you watching the film, I just get let down every-time I try to give them a chance and that's been happening for well over a decade now lol
You didn't rain on my parade, Hollywood did.

The actual 'true story' is actually much scarier then this movie...

This fact is very sad too. For instance that sorry ass movie "A Haunting in Connecticut". I was determined to not watch that crap, I happened to watch a bit of it because my sister rented it and she is somehow still fooled that there are scary movies these days lol. But anyhow, it sucked horribly and all I did was go back and forth from laughter to disgust at how bad it tried to be scary or good.

Now if you go back to the true story, the do entary/re-enactment that they did of the real story, I think it aired on A&E or one of those channels, that shyt was scary. In fact when I saw the tv special first thing I thought was damn this would make a scary ass movie, then before I know it, they made one, and it sucked, badly.

Before Blair Witch came out, the made a "do entary" about the story behind the movie. At that point, I hadn't paid much attention to it and didn't know anything about the movie. The do entary was very creepy. Much more so than the move.

Meh. I got annoyed with the unnecessary jump scares. Not my kind of movie, tbh.

I did like Insidious and the Mist. I thought the Strangers had some good scares, but it was too unrealistic.

I pretty much limit my horror movie viewings today to foreign horror flicks, but those two I mentioned really impressed me.

The movie did well because it was a great gimmick. A gimmick doesn't make someone a good filmmaker, it just means you had one gimmicky idea that worked. Unfortunately it brought us over a decade of sorry piece of reality horror films and shows that I would never pay money to see.

The last "really stupid horror movie" I saw was Human Centipede. Being extremely disgusting and making someone wanna puke doesn't make something scary.

Crazy how that ended up. Let's see how much nastier, freakier, disgusting we can make movies, let's try a bunch of crazy shaky camera tricks and then call each movie the greatest horror film since "put name here"

lol Instead of thinking...let's make better horror stories and focus on telling them well.
