CubanSucks should read this in details.
I just finished telling the guy why old age and nursing home doesn't go hand in hand in my case.

nope. I'll be slamming Roxanol Bloody Marys long before that.
good that you don't work there
i shadowed at my local nursing home for a while and the vibe in that place isn't for youngins
definitely. I've seen some strong elderly family members, including amputees, live well into their 80's and 90's. It is not the same as youth, of course, but unless you're a mental weakling or just terribly sick you still have many of the same drives.
Hopefully Mavs win a secondby the time I get to my 80's

No, it doesn't work like that. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The day I can't walk 3 or 4 miles is the one I want to go.
I was end of life caregiver for my sister that had breast cancer and it can work like that.
Was she 110? Even 70? How old was your sister, b/c your point just failed
No, she had cancer and once they decided they couldn't help her they just gave her palliative care and comfort - i.e. beaucoup pain meds
This thread is depressing
I'm sorry that your job has you so jaded that you can't accept the fact that some people can live a decent quality of life well into their 80's and 90's. My parents both still drive, still live in their own home, prepare their own meals, don't the bed, and although they have problems getting around ( , I'm in my 50's and have bad wheels) their minds are relatively sharp and they are happy to be alive.
If I am anything like Avante when I turn 60, then I give you all permission to kill me then.
Congrats on the exception, and not the rule. If you already have bad wheels then good luck with that roxy- tail ending you so cherish. It's probably going to be metamucil and bedpans for you.
How many children do you have, btw? Once daddeh gets older, loses his independence, and becomes a burden, that love will get strained and they'll want you gone. You have money too, don't you? That even further exacerbates the problem![]()
It's about death. Try to keep up.
But there is happy death too
Damn straight! Percocet milkshakes and some bloody marys, amirite?
Yeah, I want to go happily in my sleep like Grandpa, not like the other people screaming in the car he was driving.
I guess it depends in how good of health Im in. If I'm still doing pretty well, then yeah I don't mind living that long. If I'm completely senile, then smother me when Im asleep.
btw CC, I'll bet you $100 (peanuts for you, I know) that when your first parent drops, the other will follow suit within 2 months.
If it's my mom, yeah.
if it's my dad, not so sure. Moms tough and already talking about what she will do when dads gone.
He must love those conversations.
I watched my dad slowly die at a young age (around Avante's 65) and I don't want that either. If I were to be facing a decidedly terminal future, I don't know I wouldn't just put my Glock to my feeble head and end it. Getting old is already tough and I'm not even that far removed from 30. Anyhow, I see where DD is getting at and not too many people get the George Burns way out. I just hope that maybe the streets of Long Beach/L.A. will take me first, cuz.
And if I were rich with a beautiful wife and 2 perfect kids the thought of the life I currently have would make me think that I wouldn't want to keep going. But somehow I'm getting buy and magically I'm still happy. It's all relative.
Who writes these ing rules, dumbass? For every depressed senior citizen you've come across I'd be willing to bet there's 2 that are completely happy with their lives. Is it that hard to imagine people being stoic about their lives?
This is just plain as day projecting right here. It sucks you've had such bad experiences but my experience with older people have been completely fine. And don't give me the bull about your job. You have no more of an insight on the general lives of old people as a Chuck E Cheese employee would have on children. You see them at their worst
