Yep, they had it but the outcome the same in games where they sit the guys usually, run out of gas and blow it at the end. I know they sat the starters but it's still a loss.
Spurs probably still lose this game if they dressed everybody out. This way was much more entertaining and hopefully our guys will be better rested for Memphis.

Damn what a strange game....at first I watched just to see how well the backups would play. I was convinced they would lose by 10-15 but I had faith they wouldn't get blown out. And then I got my hopes up only to see them shattered, but that's per par with my life.
If only we could combine Neal with De Colo, be one uva a player.
I do think this was a great game for our guys' confidence. The fact they'll be pissed about losing, and to realize how good they have it here, can only be good for the future.
and yes it's awesome to be a Spurs fan.
Agree. That was a very fun game to watch. The role players have to be on a real high right now, even if they did lose...
Not really pissed but I think had De Colo went up for that layup instead of pitching it to Splitter in bunch of traffic to be picked..The W would be ours and our bench guys would've gained a Ton of confidence?..We were up by 3 at that point with less then a min annd a half to go
Now that is a positive.
As a Longhorn fan, it's fun to have a team that can be coached beyond the sum of its parts (or even equal to the sum of its parts tbh).
Before tonight's game:
Bonner: 9 rebounds in 12 games/123 minutes
DeColo: 17 points in 11 games/95 minutes
Tonight:
Bonner: 10 rebounds in 30 minutes
DeColo: 15 points in 34 minutes
what are they talking about here?
at least I got some emotions going
It's 5 am - time to take the bread off the stove and go to sleep![]()
BonBon with a double-double against Miami![]()
just a bit sad Manu didn't play... you know the end is near
Exactly. You could tell by guys like Cory Joseph on the bench enjoying this as if it were an NBA Finals. It was a fun game
"Substantial sanctions" is the new "Basketball reasons." LOL
must be a new shtick
I've long believed that while the Memorial Day Miracle was the moment when the Spurs franchise believed it could win les, the reaction to the 2001 WCF was the point that the Spurs actually developed its championship character. After that embarrassment -- and there's no doubt it was humiliating -- Popovich and his guys made it a deliberate point to build teams of uber-compe ive types, who would give anything to win. That doesn't mean that they always win (and it doesn't mean they never get blown out). But it does mean that the guys who've stuck around the organization for any extended period of time have competed ferociously and sacrificed to try to win. I think that character showed through tonight.
As a fan, I'd have loved the win, but I can really only ask that the guys on my team compete their asses off. Tonight, they unquestionably did that.
Proud to be a Spur fan. The effort was stellar.
Stern is way off on the sanctions. I predict that tonight's game will be far more memorable that his sanctions.
Hopefully this game will get our role players going like last year's Mavs game. Last year, we were in much worse situation win-loss wise than now, and that Mavs game really boosted role players' confidence, then we took off from that.
Although we came back to earth during the Thunder series, but overall, that's a tremendous turn-around point for our season.
Tbh, the win or loss really doesn't matter to me. A November game is a November game is a November game. But as others have mentioned, the real take away from this game was the incredible and invaluable experience for the younger players ... plus it was a great way for the coaching staff to figure out which role players can withstand pressure.
Very well said.
What the NBA commentariat or the commissioner doesn't understand is that, for a unit with a handicap in a stilted compe ive market (small market Spurs vs Super-Teams/large luxury tax teams); it has to leverage everything it has got to the fullest to be a contender. And that means, raising the confidence level of every team player to the level of a championship winner. Popovich has always utilised the schedule, the Rodeo Road trips, sharp team building strengths and RC Buford's a en to construct the winningest team in all sports.
It was ridiculous to hear the NBA commissioner threaten to "substantially sanction" a team for making rational decisions even before a game was played out. If any, the Spurs should demand an apology from Stern.
In addition, I hope they learned two important things:
1)Gary Neal needs the ball in his hands in pressure situations
2)Gary Neal needs someone else to decide when to pass the ball to him in pressure situations
