I assumed that he was the Person of the Year because he succeeded in getting reelected when nobody imagined that was possible, according to conventional wisdom.
As someone else noted, it doesn't mean the Best Person of the Year. It means The Most Amazing, if you will. And if they hadn't picked Obama, they would have had to pick Romney for blowing an almost sure thing by the most inept presidential campaign in history.
The more apt choice would have been the team of demographers, voter registration workers and pollsters who showed that all of the historic measures of the American electorate no long apply.
BTW, I didn't vote for either of them...I took Wino's recommendation, finally, and voted libertarian...not because I am a libertarian (except socially), but because I just couldn't support either of them. And one thing about living in the reddest state in America...your vote really, really really doesn't count, so feel free to throw it away.
