I'm sure Dirk would waive his no trade to be in LA and more importantly, to be with Nash to help him get his first ring. Mavs fans would not boo him when he returned, they would cheer him. He stayed with Dallas the first time around, and delivered a championship. Now Mavs fans want to rebuild. Most of the championship squad is gone anyways.

As far as Lakers defense... Dirk is still a better defender than Jamison .. and Pau will be a better defender as a C than as a PF. Dwight also overrated in that respect. Dirk solves Lakers' ability to shoot quickly and shoot well and shoot with range. And Dirk solves your problems at the Free Throw line. The offense will be much smoother with everyone able to pass.

dirk will retire a mav i think. dude's a legend of the franchise and he already has a ring so it doesn't make no sense for him to coattail ride a contender like malone & payton did. dude might be in slump but selling him would be a big hit to their market value and fan support, knowing that he & marion are the only two 11' champion team members who're still remaining on this team. dirk is the only reason why mavs fans are still watching their games now and dirk's value shouldn't be measured only by what he does on the court imho, dirk is indispensable for them mavs
