    WS:
    Diaw
    Bonner
    Blair
    Jackson
    Baynes

    WS/48
    Bonner
    Diaw
    Blair
    Jackson
    Baynes

Baynes is the shiny new toy. I'm optimistic, but we've seen squat so far.
Spiting all the whiny Bonner/Blair haters, Bonner's and Blair's results are quite good.
OTOH, Jackson sucks this year. Better WS than Jefferson this year, but that's PT. Even Jefferson has a better WS/48.

If Diaw didn't pass up so many open shots he'd be excellent

Boris has a weird habit of passing on an open 2 and taking one dribble towards the defense to shoot a contested 2.

Hmm, I'm open. Too easy. How hard can I make this ?

There is a reason the Spurs went on a 20 game win streak after the Spurs acquired Diaw.

    blair >>>>>>> diaw&bonner
Blair isn't even a rotation player.

Actually for that matter, neither is Bonner.

And listen, I love Matt Bonner. The guy is hilarious and hes been around for what, 7 years (on the Spurs at least)? Back to the days of Rasho Nesterovic. But hes been tried and tested in the playoffs and has consistently come up short. And for that matter, Blair has never even been good enough to be tested in the playoffs. He can blow up in games, but it's never when it counts, and rarely against anyone but scrub teams.

On the other hand, Diaw was great for the Spurs last year and was a major player in that 20 game win streak last season. Plus he has proven himself on capable teams in the past, including during the hey day of the Run'n'Gun Suns. Hes got the resume preceding his days in silver and black, and hes been a solid addition since getting here.

    Diaw>Bonner>Blair

    Oh, and just for fun:

Diaw was guarding LeBron when we played Miami. That speaks volumes
You mean the same game where Leonard, SJax, Green, Manu, TP, and Duncan were out?

Diaw's a poor man's Odom (or is it a rich man's Odom at this point?), IMO
    Minus the butthurt, and Kardashians.

Bonner gets a bad rap because he doesnt do the same in the playoffs, with the three pt shooting, that he does in the regular season but Bonner will score more, rebound more and do the gritty stuff in the paint more. Diaw will pass better (obviously) and perimeter defend better.

In the end, Im dissapointed with Diaw this year and pleasently surprised with Bonner's toughness.
Their rebounding rate is about the same, Bonner getting 2 in 11 minutes and Diaw getting 3.8 in 23 minutes. The thing about Bonner that KILLS us is when he gets switched out on a pick and roll, and teams can absolutely force that in the playoffs. He's dead meat. It's an AUTOMATIC basket, or worse, an AND1. Diaw is probably both the best "hedge" big, and the best switch big on the roster in defending the pick and roll, and his shooting beyond the arc is still 42%. Bonner's is 45% but he has SO many more minuses.

    WS/48
    Bonner
    Diaw
    Blair
    Jackson
    Baynes
This is very nearly my ranking as well.

The team very clearly scores more when Bonner's on the floor instead of Diaw, and there's no real defensive dropoff. Like a couple others have said, despite both being fairly similar players in most ways, it's a very different style. They look to Diaw as a facilitator and someone to run an offense through, while they look to Bonner as an outlet and someone to make the game 4 on 4 with the occasional catch-you-napping 3 point attempt. Both are effective and both should be utilized. And although I personally don't agree with this, I certainly understand the good points of why Diaw's style is better suited for the playoffs.

Jackson is the tougher question. I rank him behind both Diaw and Bonner for the very simple reason that the Spurs are outscored more with him on the floor than the other two, and to me, it's all about points. A lot of people seem to say he's better because of his grit and toughness, his hustle, his one week playoff-shooting bender, etc., but personally, I don't care about that stuff when it comes to playing time it it doesn't translate to helping us get points (and thus helping us win games). And it doesn't.

Re: Diaw's "passiveness," I don't get the idiots who complain about it. IT HELPS US WIN. You want him to shoot semi-open 18 foot jumpers, or drive the lane??? I sure as don't. I want him to keep passing the ball for a higher percentage shot, exactly like he does. He's not "passive," he's smart. Some people on this board are stuck in the Allen Iverson era and think it's about how many shots you jack up at the rim.

Diaw did a solid job on Bron. He still got his numbers (as always) but he didn't go one man wrecking crew on us like he did last year. The fact that he can step up to a challenge like that makes this thread moot. Its ing Bonner we're comparing him to

What good is being able to stop Lebron when you slack the rest of the time. Diaw needs to be more consistent. True Diaw is the more talented but Bonner uses what talent he has more to its potential.

I remember when we had Steve Kerr and the first couple seasons he lost his three point touch but then he got it back and we won a championship, same with Danny Ferry if Im not mistaken. If Bonner can get the mojo workin at the right time, he'll be the reason the Spurs will win it all.
