Yup, and Thibs knows this, so him.
Yeah, I don't recall Pop ever saying the Spurs beat themselves. In basketball talk, that's disrespectful to say, no matter how you frame it, IMO.
Yup, and Thibs knows this, so him.
but who took those turnovers away? no credit for the spurs defense forcing mistakes? sorry but thibi has to give credit where credit is due. even if it was a bad pass, it took a spurs player to have to catch that pass...
Good luck on your job security after you drive Rose back into the ground for 48 minutes on his first game back.
He is just tring to give his team a confidence boost, do you think they want to hear how they have no shot at a le cuz they just got beat by a bench team.... No, they are gonna frame it as they beat themselves and shouldve won so that team morale stays up lol
Pop's description of the Spurs WCF loss to OKC was basically "Spurs beat themselves." ie "They stole our mojo" "we forgot who we were" etc. Pop's just a master rhetorician tbh, able to say stuff like that without actually saying it![]()
I can agree with that.
Thibs is garbage. The only reason he won is because he had the best PG on the planet and some great role players for a few years. The minute Rose got hurt, the Bulls started to seriously suck.
Reminiscent of Avery and Dirk. So many pretenders out there. Only one wine-loving Innovator though![]()
Not sure where that comes from? The Bulls are still more than compe ive without Rose.
I believe this statement adequately articulates what occurred in Chicago this evening....![]()
LOL you lost to a team with three of their best players out, you just lost fool..... Move on.
I think Thibodeau's been through enough (Derick Rose) without us piling on him too much.
lol Pop schooling Thibs and making a case for repeat coach of the year... Thibs probably the favorite before tonight
Thibs also said: "They are terrific. They are going to make you pay for your mistakes."
Sounds like the OP is trying to, tbh
So basically he is saying that he got out coached....
Meh. I didn't see/hear the entire interview. At least Tom didn't say "They beat themselves."
Lolwut? Coaches say this all the time. They say the other team played great but they were the ones who lost the game and could have played better. I'm sure I could find different variations of this for all coaches including pop. It's to protect the confidence of players to lessen the blow of the ass beating to their morale.
Timvp didn't post the entire quote. He did give the Spurs credit. But the Bulls gave up 29 points off 19 turnovers. Tough to win games whe you hand your opponent 29 points. Regatdless, a good win for the Spurs.
Oh, and Lol, calling Leonard, Green, Splitter, Diaw, and Neal D-leaguers.

I agree with Thibs, tbh..losing to a severely shorthanded team that you outrebounded by 20+ is embarrassing and should be considered an upset, essentially "beating yourself"..
phxspurfan with a horrible take, as usual..
That's the way it goes.
Spurs are always undermine, disregarded and disrespected.
All for the better because every time this team win against all odds it makes it all that much sweeter.
I don't think it's all that different than Pop playing the soft card, tbh. When Pop says "we were soft" or for that matter if he says "we didn't hit shots" or "we didn't play defense" or "we didn't take care of the ball" the implication is clear: "If we did X we'd have won."
All coaches think they have the talent on paper to win. It hey look inward. It's not about the opponent it's about controlling how your guys play. You can't worry about them.
Seriously you guys want Tibs to say "We played our absolute best but we just weren't good enough to beat the Spurs ' b-team?"
"We beat ourselves. By double digits."
Damn. They must have been doing some Ricky Davis to lose so badly to themselves.
This should put Pop back into the CotY discussion, tbh. It wasn't a fluke that our B team almost beat the Heat. I think it's between Pop and Jackson for CotY now.
