Then who's to be blamed for missing the playoffs?

    5 Steve Blake G 6-3 172 02/26/1980
    24 Kobe Bryant G 6-6 205 08/23/1978
    6 Earl Clark F 6-10 225 01/17/1988
    21 Chris Duhon G 6-1 190 08/31/1982
    3 Devin Ebanks F 6-9 215 10/28/1989
    16 Pau Gasol F-C 7-0 250 07/06/1980
    27 Jordan Hill C 6-10 235 07/27/1987
    12 Dwight Howard C 6-11 265 12/08/1985
    4 Antawn Jamison F 6-9 235 06/12/1976
    20 Jodie Meeks G 6-4 208 08/21/1987
    1 Darius Morris G 6-4 190 01/03/1991
    10 Steve Nash G 6-3 178 02/07/1974
    50 Robert Sacre C 7-0 260 06/06/1989
    15 Metta World Peace F 6-7 260 11/13/1979

Nash has Blake and Duhon as his backups, its not bad.
The bigman rotation of Pau - Howard - Hill - Jamison - Clark is solid, they need 3 of them healthy.
In terms of talent, only the Heat could compare.
Well no one player deserves the blame. It's certainly not Kobe, as he's the only who's been consistently good, due in large part to him being so durable this year. (to this point). The other big (lol) 3 have missed a combined 48 games, which is the biggest reason they're not in the playoffs right now. The reason they're not anywhere near as good as expected is because of a decline in play from Howard and Pau, and likely some of it is due to coaching. If you go look at Howard's advanced stats, his numbers are worse all over the place. Worse on offense, worse on defense, and it's not really close. Then you look at Pau, and it's a little shocking how bad he's been compared to every other year. I'm sure neither guy has been 100% when they've played, but still. Kobe is still overrated by the casual fan, and has deserved blame at times in the past for the Lakers failures. This just isn't one of those times.

proof that a team with two starting all stars can still suck (and that fans often don't know squat).

if he's determined to leave LA, the lakers better trade him RIGHT NOW even at a discount of his true value. they're losing him anyway and the longer they keep an unhappy DH in LA, the more his value is gonna shrink. so that even if they convince him to re-sign in the summer and deal his ass out, they're not guaranteed to get more from the team that what they can get right now.
They'd be better off signing him in the offseason to a 5 year deal and then dealing him later on to the highest bidder. The bids will surely be better then when he's locked up. I guess they're taking the chance that he takes the money, but who cares since they can't get anything all that worthwhile in trade for him now anyways?

The best part of that article was Chris Sheridan completely misusing the word "ambivalent" in the le.
