Tim never relied on pure athleticism, speed or a huge vertical to dominate the way he does. He's always had the footwork and the brains in order to outwork his opponent on the boards and to take smart shots. Unless his brain shuts down all of a sudden he'll still be able to perform at least to a high percentage of what his old stats were and so long as he can remain healthy.

Pulled up some stats...the following are Per 36 minutes and PER for 3 MVPs and Tim Duncan's 2013 season.

The first column is TD's 2013 season, 2nd column is his 2003 MVP season, 3rd is Shaq's 2000 MVP season, and 4th is KG's 2004 MVP season.

I see where you are coming from but I think that James Harden was already on the rise last year. Duncan, on the other hand, looked like he was running in mush several times last year and seemed to be on a downward trend. The fact is that James Harden now has the keys to his own team, which allows him to be used a lot more than he ever was in OKC so I don't think he has necessarily improved too much. But there are a few facets of Duncan's game that absolutely improved. Duncan's jump shot looks better than it ever has, his free throw consistency is that of a very good guard's free throw percentage, and he is running the floor so much better than last year. This improvement in agility has allowed him to have a notable increase in blocks and dunks this year, too. All of this being said, I believe Duncan deserves the Most Improved Player award ahead of Harden, imo.

damn, pretty pathetic of the NBA that the best bigman is 36 years old

I blame Stern. His changing of the game not only alienates bigmen and stunts their development, but the faster pace probably increases bigmen injury rate.

Just look at Blake Griffin, his development literally stopped at year 2. Dude is a soft piece of , no post game, no paint dominance. Look at Dwight.

Greivis Vasquez will win the MIP award. No way a 2-time MVP and a 3-time Finals MVP will win a MIP award. It is almost absurd.

No, having 5 MVPs never makes one available as a MIP candidate. If NBA has comeback player of the year, Tim might be a strong candidate for that award.
