Maybe I just don't know how the new "amnesty waivers" works, but waivers in every other sport is NOT cheap. In baseball for example, claiming a guy off of waivers means you have to be the full amount if the team who waived him says, "go ahead and take him". So in MWP's case, that's what, 7.25m a year? That isn't cheap at all. . .Batum was like 9 mil and he's basically Artest with shooting ability.
The amnesty waivers are completely different than normal waivers. Teams big what they want (above a minimum) and the team with the highest big gets the player at that salary, while the amnestying team pays the balance. So if World Peace is owe $7.25 Million, and the Spurs win the bidding at $1.25 Million, they only have to play that much, while the Lakers would have to pay $6 Million.

Oh I see, thanks for explaining it, I didn't know how it worked. If we can get him or 1.25, that'd be worth it. Anywhere near 7 though and it's not. 5m would really be pushing it imo. He's so inconsistent from 3, and that's where he's going to get most of his looks. MWP would not help our offense much at all imo. Then again, he can't be much worse than Stephen Jackson was.

It's funny that Jennings talked about role-players, since he would be one on the Spurs. World Peace is continuing to try to drub up interest from the Spurs. Depending on what contract and role he wants, there may be mutual interest there.
    What...

    Thanks but no thanks.

    Ignore.

Honestly, I'd love to have MWP on the bench. Veterans who have won les and are willing to play within their roles are great, and as long as he's surrounded by a full roster of non-crazy people, I think his willingness to mix it up is a net positive. On a team with a healthy culture, you're more likely to get crafty Horry hipcheck moments, and not scary bat moments -- his teammates are holding him back keeping him from chasing into the stands instead of charging in behind him.

If we had him right this second to provide a few minutes a game defending LeBron or Paul George, I'd be thrilled.

to Brandon Jennings for saying "Spurs play beautiful basketball." yes they do! They play the game the way it's meant to be played, as a team.

Why the can't everyone else (I mean media and supposed fans of basketball who follow other teams) see this?

I'd take Artest as a cheap bench player, but hearing his name during every Spurs game would drive me mad

I like MWP, didn't know he had interest in Spurs, but you've always seen or sensed the admiration. He is whack but he absolutely knows bball. Good teammate. Would definitely make it interesting.

A well behaved MWP as an option on the bench is an insteresting thought... let's not forget, however, that the Spurs already have an "old veteran SF" on the roster in T-Mac... I'm sure he will play a role next season after having the opportunity to learn the playbook (and completing the mandatory Pop-led training camp requisite)...

I'd rather have Artest than T-Mac giving us 12-15 min/night at the backup SF spot. TMac will get murdered playing defense.

Pop already said tat he wants KL playing around 40 mins a ame. That leaves only 8-10 minutes open. T-Mac-Neal-DeColo-any scrub is good for this.
What the Spurs really need to add is a player that can take some of the offensive load of the second unit off Ginobili.
Diaw figured to be that option as he can create for himself but he doesnīt seem to like to shoot.
I think a low post scorer who can play C at times is what we should target to reinfoce our bench.
CJ seems to have taken the back up PG duties uite well and DeColo Neal are good for fighting for the last spot on the rotation.

PS: The player we are looking for could be Baynes. I donīt really know what he can do as Pop rarelly letīs him play.

There's an interesting thought. The Spurs hired a full time translator to stay right next to Mengke Bateer, when he was here. Seems like I remember them doing the same for someone else. They could sign MWP, and then hire a full-time caretaker to sit next to him on the bench, and to be on the ready to pull him off the court if he starts going postal.

Oh...and as far as the bucks wanting to sign Ellis over Jennings...bj doesn't really want to be in Milwaukee(who would?), so the feeling is mutual. Question is, does Ellis want to be in Milwaukee?

MWP's comment actually seemed backhanded. He basically just said the Grizzlies were better than they showed and insinuated that the Spurs were lucky they didn't "try hard enough".

As for mutual interest in MWP. . .yeah maybe. . .3-4 years ago. Now? Nope. Slower, ty BBall IQ, can't hit the three. Next to useless in Spurs' system, and is arguably a negative because he runs his mouth too much, jacks bad shots more than anyone on the current Spurs, and his salary would be better spent elsewhere (a real backup PG or replacement for Bonner)
I wasn't sure if the "they" was the grizzlies themselves or the Spurs. I am leaning towards him saying they underestimated the spurs.

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I was assuming he spoke English properly, but that may not be the case. If he was, he was referring to the Grizzlies. The guy is pretty dumb though so you might be right in that he was actually referring to the Spurs with that pronoun before he even mentioned them.

We need a dirty hard defender. A bowenesque type player to frustrate opponents and get under their skin.

Yeah I don't know. It would make a little more sense if that tweet was a response to something else talking about the spurs.

He's crazy as a ing loon, but the boy can flat ball. If he was in the right place, I think he could still dominate games. I feel sorry for him a lot of times, because I think he really does want to be a good guy. But in honor of your "bat crazy" comment, I feel compelled to post my favorite MWP clip of all time. No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old:

MWP wonders what it would be like if he lost all his teeth: strange dude.

MWP wonders what it would be like if you lost all your teeth: uh-oh.
