I wouldn't pursue James, primarily because other than his most recent playoff run, the guy has never done a damned thing in the NBA. Sure, he may have turned a corner and figured things out; but he just as easily may be the next Ike Austin. Think of it this way -- over the long haul of the regular season, James is a 7 footer who averaged 3 rpg and fewer than 5 ppg, mostly because in 16 minutes, he averaged between 3-4 fouls. Both Rasho and Nazr give more production (and are able to stay on the floor more minutes) than James.

I'd be surprised if there was a GM in the NBA who truly valued James more than either Rasho or Nazr. James has had at ude problems at many points along the way. He's a physical player without any real sense of time and score (i.e., dumb fouls at inopportune times), which offsets his shotblocking abilities, which are above-average. And he's got about zero dimensions offensively -- if you don't get him involved in screen/roll plays, he's a complete guest on the offensive end.

I take it you missed the regular season ... and the previous four.
IIRC, James showed up for maybe one season right before robbing the Sonics blind with his last deal. This time, he doesn't bother showing up -- even in his contract year -- until the playoffs.

My favorite is how the Sonics drafted the big, athletic, undermotivated center Johan Petro. They figure they're going to to lose the American Jerome James, so they drafted the French one.

This is exactly what the spurs are about. If I need something large and reckless, I go to the nearest home depot.

I give Isiah a lot of credit. He didn't sign another undersized power forward.

Knicks boards burning up convincing themselves this was anything like a good pick up. Saying he gets 1.4 blocks in 16 minutes per game. Crazy they don't mention the 3.5 fouls in the same time frame. The guy is a foul machine... and most of those are on shot attempts... Knicks'll be paying this guy when he's 34.

if stephen jackson never was a spur and we were interested in him now? what would your reaction be?

5 years 29M for a 7 foot 1 center that has shown flashes of brilliance? that's a bargain! i have full confidence in pop and the coaching staff that they'd be able to overcome his laziness etc too bad we weren't interested (heck they know a lot more than i do)

One less 7-foot bruiser to beat up on Manu in the West. Remember his elbow to manu's face?

I know the plaque on the Statue of Liberty says, "Give us your tired, your poor, your wretched teeming masses..." but the Knicks play in the Garden. I nominate Isaiah Thomas as the worst GM in NBA history.

29M$ over five years... Where was Isiah when James played in France and convinced nobody (but to let him leave :o) and the following years in the NBA... This guy is a pure waste, no skills, no brain and worse, no futur...

I migth be wrong but this deal is yet another tribute to Isiah's legacy. Great player, bad manager (be it in CBA or in the NBA). Sad for the Big Apple... New York deserves a great NBA team.

Looks like the man they call "Big Snacks" will be "eating up" more of a supersized portion of the Knicks capspace.

So much for Seattle as a concern in the West. Moreso because they lost McMillan and (apparently) AD. But James gave them some size up front and had his moments against the Spurs in the playoffs.
