had he (the fuhrer) given control of the northern army group to Manstein and the central army group to Guderian they would've actually demolished the commies in a few months, and accomplished the objectives of Operation Barbarossa. tbh you can't beat w/ s like Herman Hoth or Paulus being in charge of the battle. Manstein and Guderian are my favorite Nazi generals because they were both military geniuses, and they surely deserved more important roles in the German army imho. Rommel is overrated, dude was an expert of blitz and all.

germans ain't idiots imho, if they couldn't see any chance of success they wouldn't have done so. Guderian (or Manstein im not sure, but gotta be one of them) suggested there should be a buffer between germany and russia, something like a german-controlled puppet state of Poland, but the Fuhrer preferred the idea of splitting Poland with russians. Surely the geniuses didn't want any direct confrontation with russians because it would be extremely adventurous to fight such a giant, but the militarists didn't know politics as good as their Fuhrer did tbh. a war between germany and Bolshevik was inevitable, the nazis hated commies more than they hated yids and there was never a planet where nazis and commies could co-exist imho. so it wasn't necessarily a bad idea to launch a preemptive war before russians invaded them tbh, just like the Iraq war in 03.
