As an SDSU grad rooting for Kawhi and living in LA. You got this right. I am a part of a group of 5 SDSU grads that has been watching San Antonio pretty religiously for the last two years and have grown a TON of appreciation for this team.

In addition, don't know if you guys know this, but due to Kawhi, the Spurs actually have 1000's of Lakers fans converted to Spurs fans in San Diego.

I call it the Kawhiet Cult. Good luck in the Finals San Antonio.

i can confirm lots of new found spurs fans here in Los Angeles

Well, ok I welcome the bandwagoners EXCEPT Skip Bayless. You stay off the wagon, you clown. Ok new Spur fans time to join us and go to war against the superteam, the dancing fools, the heatles, the ass kissed media darlings or whatever the they're called this week. The Spurs got enough for one more fight, take it to them!!

Now, how to make San Antonio lovable when they have not been marketed... ?
It's all the media storylines you'd expect:

The Spurs: the classic retro-franchise who everybody (read: we) have taken for granted; also, can the over-the-hill gang defeat the in-their-prime champs (never mind that the Heat have more old dudes than we do)
Tim Duncan: the quiet superstar who works hard and does everything the right way
Tony Parker: exciting penetrating player who's also tabloid fodder; best point guard in the league? 3rd best player in the league?
Kawhi Leonard: a breakout draft steal; can he stop LeBron? (hint: no, but maybe he can slow him down)
Popovich: the living legend coach who has reinvented everything the team did

There's a bunch of these storylines out there to hang articles on, and it's time to promote the Spurs, so the media are firing away.

The Spurs are often called "boring" by the average NBA fan, but now nearly 95% of the country is rooting for them lmao

I never understood the concept of rooting for another team that isn't yours. I mean I got into w/ a couple of "Spurs" fans who cheered for the Mavs when they played Miami. My thing was just because they're a Texas team doesn't mean you cheer them on. They're the Mavs, you might as well be cheering for the Lakers.

If my team goes out in an earlier round I'll still watch to see what happens, but I'm not rooting for anyone.
