The recent spate of violence has shifted that back to positive, I think. I dimly remember reading something about it. Anecdotally I know if at least one RL family that has fled Mexico. Family had enough money to send their kid to some prep school, but now he has thrown his lot in with a lot of much poorer prior immigrants. Teenage boy, so it is tough on him to adjust.

The immigrants fleeing the violence are much more likely to be empresarios. Poor indios from the Mexican south just don't even bother to make the journey. Rich Mexicans might end up throwing their lot with poor American Hispanics simply because to the Anglo who freaks out about immigration, a be@ner is a be@ner.
