The lakers might be better than last season though. their bench is deeper and they've got someone who isn't such a as DH to play at center. Kobe will be back sooner than originally expected.

Meanwhile some other western teams have also improved a lot from last season one way or another. Mavs are revamped and are ready to come back for a playoff seat. The pelicans have abundant potential, with a new name and several solid new signings they may turn out to be a black horse and surprise the league probably.

Lakers are in an awkward position. They are too good to earn the # 1 pick. Best case scenario is this. Kobe doesn't come back to the player he once was, Nash' injury woes continues and Gasol's foot continues to bother him.
