I was happy w/the T-Rich pick just in terms of making the best of a bad situation (pissing away a chance to get RGIII) but he only averaged 3.6 yards a carry, and the reality is that spending a top-five pick on a RB in this day and age is just plain stupid.

Not saying he isn't a talent, though. If he ever learns to hit the hole decisively he's going to be a damn good back. He certainly has ability and yes, he can catch the football too.

I like this trade for the Browns because I'm still a firm believer that sans a few freaks of nature once every few years, RBs are never worth a first round pick.

Yeah, apart from Peterson almost none of the top-shelf RB's in the league right now were 1st rounders. The only part of this trade I kind of don't like is that we really do need to build our defense and most legit defenses were built through solid drafting and not picking up free agents or trying to develop some scab. Also, the drafting of Reggie Wayne's successor is about 3 years overdue by my count. It wouldn't be that way if the previous front office didn't bust every 1st round pick between Anthony Gonzalez and Anthony Castonzo. Now, I like TY Hilton. I like extending Heyward-Bey's contract for cheap if he produces this year. Our tight end situation was great until Allen went to IR today...so I'm okay with holding out on drafting our WR1 of the future in a year or two. But like...1st rounder woulda been nice to improve the pass rush.

Even the freaks don't really help you win. The one really good year the Vikings have had during AP's career was when they had a healthy Brett Favre throwing 34 TD passes.

And T-Rich is no freak. He's a solid, workhorse back who can get you 1,200 rushing yards, 60 catches and 12 TDs. A Matt Forte type. He isn't going to go off for 250 yards in a game or rip off 80-yd runs on the regular. Good player but not a franchise guy, imo.
