considering that mark madsen just received something other than a minimum contract, it wont be easy to find a quality big for what the spurs have left in cap flexibility.
sign him to a non-guaranteed deal.
All talk, no action. I stopped reading at the beginning when he pulled the American flag card. Give me a break. If he really felt that way, he would have changed his life a long time ago. I know some people can actually change very late in life, but in my opinion, if you're still that way at 30, you're probably going to die like that, with of course, brief interludes, for a reporter doing an expose on your return. Even in the small role the Spurs would give him, he's not worth it. He'll be back back to his old ways and be gone before the end of the year. Why mess with the team that way? The only reason he is coming back is because he owes a fortune in child support. He doesn't even have any college behind him, this is his only way to make money.

this dude can flat out ball
Would love to see "The Reignman" in silver and black.
Off the court talk to D-Rob to continue his way of life in the right direction.
Exactly, alamo50.
I think the Spurs can have a greater positive impact on Kemp than Kemp's potential negative impact on the Spurs. The guidance, structure, and discipline are a perfect fit for a man trying to re-make himself. And what more could he ask for than a winning situation?
Wouldn't kill us to give him a shot. Park him at the end of the bench, let him earn a few minutes and if he doesn't well it's no huge loss. Best case scenario the Spurs get a worthwhile 3 string PF but the real benefit will to solidify the Spurs image as THE team for aging veterans to go to finish out their last worthwhile years of their career.
too late,![]()
The guy doesn't want a ring, he wants to redefine his legacy and the crappy way it ended. He hasn't mentioned anything about one last shot at a ring and that would be the primary reason he would come to the Spurs in a 12th man capacity. He wants to go someplace he can show that he can play and that he is still capable of being a force in this league. I'd imagine he'd want to sign with a contender that he play a significant role with or he'd probably sign with a team with a couple of young bigs he could mentor and play along side with. I could be wrong but you can't really re-write the ending to your story by riding the pine whether it nets you a championship or not. If he can prove he's even half of what he used to be, some team will be able to use him and give him a better shot at what he wants than we can.
You mean the dude used to be able to flat out ball. Did you see him in ORL??
a 35 year old shawn kemp, after a career of cocaine binges and weight problems is still more useful than a mark madsen in his prime.
Nicely put.
Kemp was Amare before Amare, he was truely awesome, and his combination of strength and quickness gave everybody fits.
I would love it if the Spurs give him a small chance, I am not sure if he is really as dedicated as the article states (haven't we seen that somewhere after he was bought out by the Blazers and signed with the Magic?), but an old, fat Kemp is still better than most available bigs on the market.
Things to consider.
1. He isn't the smartest guy.
2. His greatness was because of his athleticism.
3. With his athletcism gone, does he have the smarts to still be an effective player?
I may be proved wrong but I would rather bring Big Dawg back for training camp.
I also see the similarities between Kemp and Amare. Let's hope Amare is smarter and doesn't up like that. For Kemp, I think it's too late, I used to loved seeing play in his prime.
definitely big dog before kemp. but if rasho is traded then there may be room for a 5th bigman.
Don't we have enough pregnant teens in San Antonio?
We don't need this loozer..
