So, basically, Manu wasn't good enough to carry the team past the first round...against an 8th seed. Franchise players will take over games. Manu couldn't. Again, Ginobili's a solid player but this nonsense about him being a first option calibre player is ridiculous. He's best utlizied as a 2nd option/3rd option on a contender. As a first option, he'll fall apart on your team due to the heavy minutes and you'll have another 2011 fiasco. It's no coincidence that the Spurs suddenly became contenders again after Duncan turned the clock back last year. Like always, the Spurs go as far as TD can take them.
Its like you didn't even read my comment. Manu had a good series, while playing with a broken right arm. Parker, Duncan, & RJ all struggled in that series. IMO George Hill was the second best Spur in that series. That coupled with Zbo's great series and Gasol and Conley being handfuls it was still a close series. I believe 3 games (that we lost) were still up in the air in the final 5 minutes of the game. We lost 1 because Manu didn't play and RJ clanked an open 3 to tie and force OT in San Antonio. Sometimes teams are simply better than their record. In 05 Denver set the record for best post All-Star break record and still were the 7th seed. GSW had an stacked roster that barely made the post season (ironically because Dallas rested their players against them on the final night of the season) and the beat a 67-15 Dallas team that had went to the finals the year before. Point being there is no shame in losing to an 8th seed in some occasions. Memphis was one such occasion. Duncans return to form was a big part, but Splitter, Green, and Leonard along with Diaw off the bench helped propel the Spurs from 11th in defensive rating to 3rd with virtually the same squad. It isn't some indictment on Manu's greatness.

The same 2011 season when we lost to an 8th seed? Yeah, great example there. Definitely proves Manu can lead a team to an embarrassing playoff exit.

What about 2005? 2007? He didn't lead us to the finals right?
In what way was Manu the first option on those teams? You just proved my point. Manu's most useful as a second-option sidekick to a much better star(Tim Duncan). I will concede that Manu was ALMOST as good as Tim in 2005. Best sidekick Duncan's ever had besides '99 DRob.

Which is why he wouldn't make a very good first option. He couldn't handle the strain of an 82 game season in 2011.

Sounds like a lot of excuses in order to justify losing to an 8th seed. It's because of the failure of the 2011 Spurs that SA still has a reputation as a regular season team.

Duncan was surrounded by crap for most of the early 2000s and he still carried the team deep in the playoffs in 2001 and 2002. That's what a franchise player will do for your team. Manu was NEVER a franchise player. The 2005 playoffs is the only time Ginobili ever came close to looking like one but he was never able to replicate that performance in the following years. There's nothing wrong with being considered a 2nd option talent though. Scotty Pippen's one of the all-time greats and he was a sidekick his entire career. If it's good enough for Scotty, it's good enough for Manu.
