I've always been amused at many in the media and public praise Ken that Kennedy as the best or one of the best President's we have ever had. His administration only lasted 2 years and 10 months. Really no notable legislation passed in that time. He and his campaign used the Mafia to help in the 1960 West Virginia primary and then used yet again the Mafia in the 1960 Presidential election in the votes in Chicago that gave him a razor edge victory over Nixon. One elected he and attorney general Robert Kennedy went after and attacked the Mafia. So they chose to attack the Mafia, the same group that helped get him elected? How utterly stupid was that? Kennedy was a notorious womanizer which was well known and do ented by the FBI, Mafia, CIA et al leaving him subject to blackmail. He alledgely was having sex with a Judith Exner, the girlfriend of Mafia chief Sam Giancana, sex with a German woman thought to be an Eastern Bloc spy, sex with Mary Meyer the ex-wife of the CIA's Cord Meyer, and alledgely dropped acid with Mary Meyer in the White House. Marilyn Monroe was on the verge of breaking down emotionally and threatened to rat out JFK and RFK before her mysterious death.
If you use the Mafia for help, you don't turn around and them. And when you assure the rebel Cuban invading force you are going to provide them air cover, and then refuse to send while they are invading leaving most killed, captured and tortured, you don't them either. JFK might have been handsome, charismatic and a great orator, but very guilty of reckless behavior and bad judgment.
