Biden just won that race by a nose, though.
What does that say about Paul Ryan considering Biden wiped the floor with him in the 2012 vp debates?

he ran on the platform of "hope" and "change" but kept and expanded the same policies as bush (namely the patriot act...). if he really wanted to promote change, he'd challenge mega-corps, promote legalization of marijuana, speak more about peace instead of going after people, promote equal rights, and use his status as a biracial american to stop the racist politically-correct tone that america employs every day. we're all americans, regardless of our skin color. instead he ballooned the status quo and made it more acceptable to the public.

we have yet to see how obamacare pans out, but it's a very intimidating piece of legislation that laypersons have yet to really understand fully. let's hope the government does and is able to work in the same proximity as healthcare professionals on the matter.

really the evident change to me is that obama shattered that wall between the presidency and pop culture. i don't know if i'm comfortable with that change yet. i understand that it's a great PR move to be a cool president and be directly involved within the public sphere (talk shows, guest appearances, the first lady doing SNL style skits), taking the most vacation time ever, but then again the most difficult job in america warrants a strict professional standard. the world is watching...

i guess the main issue is how conservative he ended up playing his presidency (with the exception of healthcare, which has been one of the main focuses of the democratic party for decades) and subsequently ostracizing much of his support base who elected him. then you have conservatives who won't like him strictly on party terms.

for me the whole race issue is disturbing on both sides of the argument. i detest the "one drop" rule of being black. you should claim whatever you want to be, and no one should judge you or lift you up based on your skin color or denomination. it's a sad world when people are partial or impartial to someone just because their looks or background is a novelty.

i think overall he is an OK president by making the status quo more accepting to the public. honestly i really like how he handled the economic situation, though i'd like to see more taxes and less debt imo. however, no matter who the president is, US citizens should scrutinize him/her and keep close watch because he/she represents our nation. once we start building up public leaders as idols then we're no different than countries who are suppressed by dictators.

What does that say about Paul Ryan considering Biden wiped the floor with him in the 2012 vp debates?
    Mr. Smirk? Sure he did...

According to the CNN poll of independents, Paul Ryan won the debate, 48% to 44%. The same poll showed that people who watched the debate believed that Paul Ryan expressed himself better than Joe Biden, 50%-41%. An NBC poll of 435 uncommitted voters after the debate showed Paul Ryan winning with 63% to 31%. CNBC had it 56% to 36%, again with Paul Ryan coming out on top. Even the Danville Advocate Messenger had Paul Ryan on top at the end of the day, attracting 56% to Biden's 41%

When the whole tone of the OP comes from a single perspective, diametrically opposed to mine, I sometimes don't participate. What's the point when nobody really listens to the other views? We have already been over the underlying reasoning multiple times, and nobody accepts the other persons perspective. Should I expect that to change in this thread?

For all of Biden's faults he more than made up for it by being actually informed.

I think the responses in general are spot on. If you're not directly hating, you definitely are trying to appeal to hate when you start parading the kenyan muslim negro line. Props to scott for going straight to that one point.

Personally, I don't hate him, but I am disappointed he's more of the same. He's not the first politician with a sharp tongue and full of , and he won't be the last. But it's certainly an opportunity lost.

I think the other aspect is that America has become extremely polarized, and while that predates him, it has only become more and more pronounced. It will take some prosper times and bigger men to solve that, and unfortunately we don't have either at this time.

it will take LOTS of bigger men, and women, enough Liz Warren/Grayson-minded majorities in both Congressional chambers.

    http://www.thenation.com/blog/170518...undecided-vote

CNN on their site just admitted that the sample for their poll was “a debate audience that was more Republican than the country.” Sample was 33 percent GOP and 31 percent Dem. CNN spokesman: “That indicates that the sample of debate watchers is more Republican than an average of recent CNN polls of all Americans.” They revealed last week—also belatedly—that their sample was similarly skewed but few paid attention because of Romney's wide margin of victory. Note: all major national polls always sample a few more Democrats because they do top Repubs in registration numbers.

Relative to Sarah Palin, my ten year old is well-informed. Not sarcasm, just not a high bar to clear.

Even so, Biden was, and is, far more informed on issues and events than your average American, having been a Senator with a staff for many years longer than a half term governor of a podunk state.

As for the pundits and cable channels: MSNBC predictably big for Biden, Fox even more so for Ryan—with one analyst after another hitting Biden for his “demeanor” and “buffoonery.” Karl Rove tweeted that Biden was “unhinged.” Many analysts at CNN said Ryan “held his own.”
In an absolute sense Biden came off as better informed, and on balance with the undecideds that mattered, did "win".

That said much of it is very subjective. I think most saw what they wanted to see. I don't remember either really scoring any big wins.

I do remember Romney stepping on his though about Benghazi. :rofl

I don't think that VEEP candidates were what won or lost the election. That sums it up. Easy, quick sound bites that wrote the narrative of an out of touch richer who gets his news form places disassociated from reality.

He may be more informed but....

“Look at what they [Republicans] value, and look at their budget. And look what they're proposing. [Romney] said in the first 100 days, he's going to let the big banks write their own rules -- unchain Wall Street. They're going to put y'all back in chains." --Joe Biden, speaking to a largely African-American audience in Danville, Va., Aug. 14, 2012

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." –Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time, interview with Katie Couric, Sept. 22, 2008

"A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!" --Joe Biden, at his first campaign rally with Barack Obama after being announced as his running mate, Springfield, Ill., Aug. 23, 2008

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." –Joe Biden, referring to Barack Obama at the beginning of the 2008 Democratic primary campaign, Jan. 31, 2007

"You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.... I'm not joking." --Joe Biden, in a private remark to an Indian-American man caught on C-SPAN, June, 2006

That one is so... so... Biden...

If anyone else said that, they would be persecuted as a racist. Why can Biden say it?

    LOL...

Neither of those roll off the tongue as well as lib , do they?

I am libertarian, with most my leanings based on conservative views.

I once saw something I wish I copied. I'll see if i can remember it correctly:

That was my bluster, and the responses it garnered from both you and DarrinS were predictable. Going into the debate, the Wonk Ryan was supposed to wipe the floor with Biden. That didn't happen and you know it. That was the point.

I personally don't hate Obama but I think he is a ty president. He claimed to be the anti-Bush and has been nothing more than a clone of Bush. His stances on civil liberties make Bush look like a saint. The same could also be said for his stance on fighting terrorism. Obama was not ready to be president but loves the fame and celebrity that he gets from being the president. I have never seen a president be such an attention . I mean Obama just s himself out to the media. Who the cares what thinks about Lebron and the Heat? How about his opinions on that matters to everyone.

Cracks me up how all the Obama haters who do nothing but about him on the board go the PC route and claim they don't hate his sorry ass.
