What happened to Bonner?

The dude sucks. He has always sucked. He can make a good % of his three point shots, but that's because he's too much of a to shoot if anyone is within 5 feet of him. He has always been a huge liability on defense, even more so these past two years. He pump fakes and drives in with the speed of a six year old; the other PF's just walk beside him because he's that slow. & why does he even drive in? Every team/player that we play against knows he can't do / won't do except for that floater that he misses more often than he misses a 3 point shot. He is a known playoff choker, he had one good game against Memphis last year - that's pretty much it. Did I miss anything?

He is better than Ayres though. But they are the only two players in the league I know that can pick up five fouls in eight minutes of play.

Agreed, but you made points that have been known on ST for almost half a decade.
My original post was asking what happened to him to make him suck more.

I'm simply asking if ST believes he somehow fell off some huge athletic cliff, or what. I would love to hear some convincing explanation to why he fell off a cliff because I can't come up with anything.

Bonner is definitely done as an NBA player though. There's no way he should be in the rotation in the playoffs. Its hard to do so though when you have Ayres and Baynes as the alternates.

Yeah but the big three have the ''It'' factor and its their sheer will and championship fire that carries them most of the time. Bonner's just collecting a paycheck that he'll later invest into a sandwich shop once he retires.

Bonner was never athletic, fast, or a leaper of any kind. He's always been a 3-point specialist that can rough it up in the middle for 6 hard fouls. Nothing much has changed.

I don't think he shoots as well with the mask, so that's probably made him more selective on taking his shot. The reason he probably looks less athletic now is that you actually notice him on the court now that he's wearing his face mask. Before he was invisible. If they made an invisible face mask he'd once again disappear.

He's a smart player, one of the smartest on the team. He's managed to get decent contracts for a very very limited ability. Also, he knows his value is greatly diminished if he turns the ball over or takes a contested shot and misses, so he waits for wide open shots. Because of that he doesn't make a lot of mistakes on offense (let's not discuss defense), however because he needs more and more room to shoot, defenders only need to show on him, not actually cover him, and he's going to pass the ball.

I think he's a ball conveyor right now, and is too slow to set picks for guards who are too jittery and anxious to go, so they don't wait for him so he's been getting called on moving screens. Same is true for 5 seconds in the lane Ayres.

White dudes love that stuff and they make up the majority of coaching staffs throughout the NBA

Hence guys like Booner that shouldn't be in the NBA linger around on the fringes
