TD and Manu are too old to have any patience for a guy who can't catch the damn ball.
Ayres should not be playing in the NBA. Period.

I like what I saw from Baynes last night. He's a banger who, in spots, can hold his own with hustle, rebounding and defense. Will Pop continue to play him, or will he fall back on his conservative, cliched coaching moves is the question.
After Boylen said that to him, Pop then introduced him to Kawhi Leonard...needless to say that didn't go over very well...lol.
Thought you were describing Baynes in your first sentence, tbh.
I donīt know how some ultra advanced statistic can save Ayres really but it would be interesting if jeebus show us the way.
This is why Baynes gets my nod over Ayers..

Big fella is making progress. He looked much more relaxed last night. His Defense was outstanding, particularly team D.
I said earlier this year at the time of the Spurs open scrimmage that I had some issues with Ayers. He was getting pushed around under the paint quite often and that was ultimately my concern. He didn't seem to have the strength to cover down low or box out as effectively. Perhaps he was just trying to fit in? Aside from him having trouble catching the ball in the regular season, the lack of strength is quite glaring. It affects his defensive rebounding. Last year, I hated the fact the Spurs had issues boxing out and losing rebounds because of tap outs under the basket. Ayers does have a good idea of where to be on the court, but athleticism isn't enough to get it done.
Physically I prefer Baynes because he can not only intimidate, but is much more difficult to jump over or around for rebounding. Mentally, I prefer Ayers because it seems he understands positioning better. Offensively, I prefer Baynes because he seems to have a greater variety of ways to score than Ayers (mid range, hook shots, offensive rebounds). Defensively I prefer Baynes because he can clear space rebounding. He isn't that great of a defender, but has the presence enough to make a player think twice. If Baynes stops fouling so much, his numbers could go up in the rebounding department.
Overall, I believe both players are a bit mediocre but Baynes is the better fit physically. If you could combine Baynes physical superiority and Ayers mental game then you could possibly have a pretty good player. UNLEASH BAYNERS!!!
Opening the second half with Baynes threw off the rhythm of the first unit and almost cost us the lead, but I do agree that he's a step up from Ayres.
why compare anyone to the worst basketball player in the NBA and probaly all other basketball leagues?
Baynes is HEAD AND SHOULDERS BETTER THAN AYERS.
If Ayers even steps on the court in the postseason, other than for injury, then Pop is a madman.
Pop used Duncan-Baynes lineup a little bit in the last two games. Maybe he is preparing for some potential match-ups in playoff.
The gots in here crying that Baynes is better are ing stupid.
Ayres will be taking Tammy's spot after the TOSB retires after this season; only reason why Ayres is coasting so much right now is because he doesn't get regular minutes. Besides, it still hurts.
Uh huh!
Baynes is a far better player and a better fit in the Spurs' system, imo., than Ayres.
He has had very very little playing time, but you can tell he is improving. He sets the best picks of any of our big men, and he is agile and has a mid-range jumper. The guy can be a totally solid backup, mo.
It is true that the chemistry issues need to be worked out, but that just comes with time.
Same here, thought he was talking about Baynes. Surprised that he meant Ayers. Since when did Ayers have a midrange jumper?
Baynes is a big ole galoot that I hope sticks around a while. We need a dude like that on the team for a change of pace.
When did Mills receive ample opportunity last season?
Don't be surprised if this is just them trying to get Ayres' attention and Baynes some experience in the process. They clearly want the former to be the guy, which is why despite having virtually no pedigree to speak of, he was given 50+ games to begin with.
Baynes is an NBA baby and will take another season to improve to NBA level. He is a BIG and needs to play aggressively in defence. On offence he should watch tapes of Duncan's positioning in the key. He shoots awkwardly and needs a shooting coach.
