Sounds like something Shaq would say in his half time analyses.
Outhustle is the term is suppose
Not getting the ball. Result of a stagnant offense, tbh. Looks entirely different to how it looked in the regular season.
Its funny, 99% of teams will revert to isolation iverson kobe streetball mode in the face of the Mavs gameplan. Just exploit the mismatch and have the confidence to make it rain. Not us. the Spurs spent the whole game trying to screen, drop off, hand off, and pass the rock so unselfishly that the Mavs were gifted a games worth of momentum on a silver platter by the end of the first quarter.
The Spurs can still put away the Mavs fairly easily just by going small, running hard, then using hero ball in the halfcourt. But everyone including Pop will have to temporarily forget about milking the clock, moving the defense every position and always looking for something easier.
SSOL, baby. If we cant get a transition hoop, start ribcage rubbin and go right at the mismatch looking for buckets. If Parker takes 15 jumpers semi contested jumpers off the dribble, no problem. No doubt the Spurs burn them, their doubles fail, and now RC will switch back to a zone or a more help driven defense to adjust, and then Pops system works just peachy again. Then what does Jim Carrey do besides rely on the Spurs going cold and maybe Dirk abusing a mismatch every possession the opportunity arises?

We just can't beat anyone 1-on-1. Dallas is doing a masterpiece on D. We are ed, TBH.
I've rarely seen the Spurs as mentally disengaged as last night. Kawhi was really on the court for what? 3 minutes? The rest of the time he was daydreaming, much as the rest of the team. Manu was about the only player who seemed focused and engaged. That lead to a lot of turnovers, weak rebounding effort, stupid fouls and missed free throws.
Feel same way...but PRAYING Spurs come out Saturday or Monday with a W...
The answer to the OP is turnovers. You get 20 fewer shots up, you're probably going to lose the game. Compounded with the FT shooting display and the lack of defense... perfect storm. I'm surprised Spurs were in it as long as they were. 9 turnovers in the 1st quarter, Spurs should have been down big already. You can't keep giving them that opportunity.
It's amazing to me that a person paid millions to shoot a free throw cannot hit it. Spurs are typically a good FT shooting team, so last night was an anomaly. Just be glad all the crazy happened in the same game. Hopefully it's out of their system now. They need their backs against the wall instead of walking around with that swagger.
