Bit expensive, but he earned probably more than that in the finals last year.

Nice! Can't believe he couldn't get the third year full guaranteed though. I figured his market value would be about 3 years, $21 million guaranteed. I hope it's frontloaded too, since the Spurs are in no danger whatsoever of hitting the luxury tax level this year.
    looks like 18.5 is guaranteed

A lot of money for a back up big with a history of food-quitting teams and passivity.

But I don't mind, reward money was earned and deserved.
Pretty cheap get for our best player of the entire season last year tbh

That's exactly the money Manu is getting which is a steal tbh... I always said that Manu's salary was the floor for his new deal...

Great stuff, awesome contract. Spurs are set for next year and still have the ability to add another solid piece.

    More details:

Free-agent forward Boris Diaw has reached agreement on a three-year, $22.5 million contract to return to the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Diaw, 32, transformed himself into an indispensable part of the Spurs' championship fiber and his return was considered a vital part of management's plan to compete for a sixth franchise le next season.
The third year of Diaw's deal is partially guaranteed, sources said. Diaw is guaranteed $18.5 million over the first two years of the deal, sources said.
Spurs general manager R.C. Buford and Diaw's agent Doug Neustadt completed the deal Sunday, sources said.
With Diaw's return set, the Spurs will continue their pursuit of free agent Pau Gasol with an offer of their midlevel exception, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The deal includes protections for the Spurs' salary-cap space should the organization change direction in the next few years and move toward a rebuild after the Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili era.
Diaw had a tremendous NBA Finals for the Spurs, averaging 6.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists in the five-game series victory over the Miami Heat.
In his 11 NBA seasons with Atlanta, Phoenix, Charlotte and San Antonio, Diaw has averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Hopefully Baynes stays on the $1.115 million QO and they can land a solid rotation player with the MLE. That would put their payroll about $8 million over last year's, but still $7 million shy of the tax. I wonder if they will spend the MLE though, considering they're going to have to pay Parker, Leonard, and Green significant contracts in the Summer of 2015, and if Tim and Manu want to stay then you have to budget at least $12 million or so combined for them too. Green should easily pull $8M starting, Parker $12M, Diaw will be at $9M, Splitter $8.5M, Mills at $4M, and Leonard should be starting at $16.5M.

Diaw's a funny dude. The way he plays for the Spurs he's actually worth more than this contract. But this is probably higher than his market value because of the likelyhood he'll just quit on any team that isn't a winner and doesn't play unselfish offense. So this contract is really win/win - Spurs get more than they're paying for, Diaw gets more than he'd get otherwise.

Knew it was going to happen. Not a bad deal either. I hope Diaw continues to start like he did in the Finals. He's much better than Splitter.

I imagine the first year is as frontloaded as the CBA allows.
