Kalalau Trail is on our list for hopefully next year. Although I'm pretty sure my wife will chicken out at the 7 mile mark.

We've already agreed if it starts raining we're turning around and getting drinks with umbrellas in them.
The best hikes I've been on were on the outlying islands of Hong Kong. Completely uninhabited, lush jungles, fields of flowers, ridges with spectacular views of the South China Sea, pristine beaches. The only scary part is wondering if the fisherman you paid $20 to drop you off there will actually come back to get you at nightfall.
There is one island where the only inhabitants are a small Buddhist monastery, no talking at all. There is not electricity or running water, but you are welcome to eat in their dining room with them (vegetable soup and rice) and sleep on a cot in their dormitory. But stay more than one night and you are expected to work on the tea farm. It's a pretty awesome base camp for some really amazing hiking.

Matthes Crest unroped is nuts tbh. Cathedral Peak is fine unroped since it's all class 2/3 until the final 10-15 feet of class 4 to the summit block. But ing Matthes Crest? Every approach is at least class 5. That's it on the left in this pic:
