Cali would rather save the Delta Smelt than use the water for humans, so this decision doesn't surprise me.
That reminds me that I should find the Padres one that I bought at a marked down price.

Could you?
I mean, is it that much different from the impact of thicker bags that will eventually be in landfills too?
not sure what you are arguing here
where did I say that thicker bags have different impact ?
I'm reacting to that: "Eh, I don't know how much it does for the environment aside from keeping them from getting stuck in trees."
from there I post you can find a phone book list of what it does for the environment aside from keeping them from getting stuck in trees.
some examples of plastic bags issues
- Plastic bags don't biodegrade, they photodegrade - breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest them.
- A plastic bag can take between 400 to 1,000 years to break down in the environment.
- Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food.
- Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris most often found in coastal cleanups, according to the nonprofit Center for Marine Conservation.
- Nearly 90% of the debris in our oceans is plastic.
So not really much different from other plastic stuff.
I reuse and recycle the ones I get. I feel OK about it.
thread was about Plastic grocery bags but nobody is arguing other plastic stuff is different
we can create a larger thread regarding all plastic stuff if you feel we should
at the end plastic bags impact is more serious than just poluting trees like you mentioned
I like paper bags tbh
Well you threw some general plastic in there on your list. I'm fine with a bigger effort to recycle/reuse plastic bags and sure, there should be more consideration around watershed and coasts. I'm just not sure if the ban is cutting down on anything in Austin save what I already mentioned.
Do you live in Portland like I do?

If I ever found out that my son - was on a message board talking about and arguing with other "males" about grocery shopping bags...
I'd disown the little got.
gots.
Some will argue about anything, just because they are contentious souls and have nothing better to do.
It sucks when you forgot to bring bags and see the people paying with EBT getting their free bags. Yeah, good thing you can afford all those bags of hot cheetos, ice cream and oven pizza. I'll see you again, next first of the month.
Some will troll about anything, just because they are contentious souls and have nothing better to do.
This is true.
How so?
I was talking about you.
And you think I didn't know that?
So what else is new?
The 10 cents each for paper bags also seems like a scam. You can buy a case of them at Sam's for around a nickel each so I would guess grocers are paying only a penny or two for them then charging a dime each. I guess that's why they were happy to go along with it.
yep. And they probably wont pass the savings on the plastic bags onto the customers at all.
it's a secret way to get more taxes.
they don't give a about the helping of the environment.
In trash bags.
