Accounting does no good to your brain imho. m>s is my friend and he told me years ago that accounting was a badass major that could let you get paid immediately even with just a Bachelor's degree. He's right, yet I don't regret. I know that accounting is one of the most profitable jobs out there and it doesn't require massive schooling (like a doctor or lawyer), but there must be a reason they're getting paid so much, right? An accountant's job is similar to a software programmer's job imho, and their jobs are both boring as where they have to deal with numerous numbers everyday, repeating the same day after day, year after year.
Some of my relatives are and were accountants too. Like, my maternal grandpa was an accountant working for the local police department. He did accounting for decades and unfortunately, or predictably, he suffered Parkinson's disease right after retiring (he retired when he was already nearly 70 though) and only lived about 10 more years like most Parkinson's patients. The doctor said it could be due to the overuse of brain, which's probably just the case for him imho considering that none of his siblings suffered that . He lived with little dignity for his last a few years... He gradually lost the ability to speak, and his saliva could trickle like a mile long, from his old mouth all the way down to his feet. His hands felt cold and dead like wood, which may tremble ferociously every now and then because he'd basically lost control of them.
I think accounting is a technical job, of course, but it requires mechanical thinking far more than creative thinking. The job would turn you a ing machine and finally your brain would go bankrupt. I believe that in the foreseeable future, an accounting software will be developed and accounting will be just as easy as driving a car, which means, however, most accounts will lose their jobs and have to seek gold elsewhere. Accounting has been in existence for centuries but computer just appeared several decades ago, and computers have already changed our lives tremendously. So my honest suggestion to all accountants is, earn as much money as you can before your brain fails or a robot takes your job (whichever happens sooner).
My grandfather was an accountant all his life. He was a good man, though. Honest and loving. He didn't like the Japanese, but he was in the navy in WWII.
There will always be a demand for CPAs even if they automate the entire process. Accounting is the language of business and all upper management should know it to read to financial reports. Also you pretty much get a cpa so that you don't have to be stuck in accounting.
