Sadly this team right now thinks it can flip the switch ... beating the very good teams in the West but coasting the rest of the way. As they will not win all games against good teams (which will be proven in the next three weeks), the Spurs will end up in the second half of the playoff bracket, because teams like the Warriors, Grizzlies, Clippers, Blazers and Rockets right have the switch on all the time. We all know HCA is not necessary, but for a team with old key players like the Spurs HCA makes the playoffs easier ... its just that simple

btw, Leonard was awesome on defense, but could not stop Hayward down the stretch

Funny thing is the OP is right on that one but with all the daily he posts, people's views on Leonard get kind of biased

Manu ed up, so much is clear. But Kawhi despite the good FG% had not the shooting night where I would give him the ball in crunch time. The plays that are run for him do not convince me yet for these kind of situations.

20% from three, 9 fewer boards and 5 more turnovers than Utah will not get it done. The game was lost in the first 47 minutes, but s like the OP obsess about the final 60 seconds. I don't care if he's trolling or not, his schtick was old a long time ago.

Despite the obsessions, he had a point here.

Losses are big part of a learning process. That's why coaches of young rebuilding teams call a timeout to run a last game play losing by 2 or for 20. If a coach wants to develop players, he'll try to translate what the team worked on in practice into real games, even if they're gonna lose those games.

Like you said the game was lost very long before and it could have been a good time to try something different than usual, why not allow young players to gain valuable compe ive experience in a lead role?

Messina trusts in Manu and Beli, he knows them, but that was a bad decision. Manu wasn't playing great, the best two point guards of the team were injuried, why not play the young guys?
Even Pop did it against the Pels and Leonard, Joseph, Green, got us back in the game.
The Spurs'll try to build around some FA bigman star, Tony and Kawhi...they won't sign the other guy until the summer, Tony didn't play...it made no sense to bench Leonard.

Manu is still great but 37 years old, he can't win every battle for us. And the Spurs can't afford to let him to run the offense in the clutch time all games.

It could be a good learning experience to let Kawhi and the other guys do things that they otherwise couldn't do in more crucial games.

Kawhi is out tonight. Apparently he injured his hand in that fall. That, or Pop is sitting him because Melo is out.

Who came in out of shape? Belinelli?

I thought he was doing some Cross Training program to get him in the best shape possible?
I remember hearing that too, but probably week to ten days ago Pop said he came into camp out of shape and that between that, his groin injury and the inevitable few games of rust upon his return, his season has basically just gotten started.

Leonard in the post game interview when asked about developing his post game and game in general:

"I need more in game experience, practicing can only do so much"...

Leonard just saying what we've been saying, he needs the reps to get better, everyone does. He was great tonight.
