You think about teams that have had 3 or 4 very successful years and they don't accomplish much in year 4 or 5. 91-93 Bulls, MJ retired and they had 2 average years. 96-98 years, MJ retired again and they sucked. Lakers won 3 championships then got pummelled by the spurs then the pistons. Lakers won a couple more and had a finals defeat and have sucked since. Heat lost a finals, won 2 straight the got smashed last year in year number 4.
Difference is, they won the multiple championships to start their runs. Spurs first year they lost to the 8th seeded Grizzlies, then they pissed away a 20 game win streak and lost 4 straight to the Thunder in the WCF, then they lost a finals series in the most gut-wrenching way possible. Year number 4 they eventually won the championship. Unlike the other teams that won their back to backs and 3 peats before crumbling.
If you think about it, we may be defending champs but we are in the 5th year of an amazing run that only managed to win 1 championship. How many teams win a championship in their 5th year of their run? Not many. They all retired or went different directions. We weren't supposed to win a ring in 2015. 2011, 2012, 2013 we coulda/shoulda. We are in the 5th year blues with just 1 le to show for it.
Entertaining thread. Will be sure to recommend to friends and family.![]()
Far from finished but losing to Detroit doesn't help lol
You really think Shawn Marion can help?
Spurs did deserve to lose for fouling up 3 though. They stuck with their guns all last season, switching it up now is weak. Thankfully this might dissuade Pop from venturing to the dark side ever again.
The Spurs remind me of a very old person who defied his age and was still mentally/physically strong until he reached the age of 100. After reaching that milestone old people often deteriorate quickly and die a few weeks or months later.
The Spurs reached 100 last season by winning the le ...
were you alive in 2011 tbh?
not even close. I mean just looking at the lakers should be a continuous fest, add that to the fact we're the champs and we still have to play healthy this year, and at most one is allowed to be very worried.
well usually teams that struggled in regular season don't win championships. so I get your point. Sure fanzombies around here think we can turn a switch and all will be fine we'll be playing 2014 Finals basketball in no timeno
it does not happen that way. So I tend to agree to a point. At some point if we keep struggling we'll have to face the fact this team is not going all the way. the hill would be too high to climb.
Right now I think there's still time, if we are playing like this in 1 month and 1/2 then we might not even make the playoffs. the door is slightly ajar.
Pop has been ing up royaly, not to say these piece of players have been ing up themselves. what with the missed free throws and such. and then there have been some unfortunate events. so all in all, I'd say we are in an OK shape. But the margin of error has dropped considerably.
The Spurs have had a million injuries and are still on pace to win 48 games. If everyone's healthy after the all star break, they'll be fine.
No way the spurs were where they are now, relative to the compe ion, that year at this point in that season.
No way.
Nothing compares to this in the Duncan era, if you take a single season by itself.
Nothing.
I can't cliff jump...i love this team.
