Not so much - shepherds are sheep farmers hence the 'shep' at the start of the word, not noted for riding horses but is known for working dogs and 'Cow' at the front of 'cowboys'. Image of a cowboy is horse, gun, hat etc.
A stockman is someone who works on a property - usually a largish one, which might be 2,000-6,000 head, 1,000sq/km or bigger and these days more likely to use a helicopter and quad bike, will still use dogs such as blue heeler or kelpie. A drover is someone who moves stock overland for sale or to look for better pasture - could be sheep or cattle, uses dogs too. Job is probably the same, historical context and cultural context quite different.

ohhh...advertising space not yet utilised on the hat, perhaps Ansell could do something there ... something like advertising their 'papal tour' condoms - 'put one on for the pope' etc

Rodeo is a big business nowadays, a professional sport. Still stupid and barbarian, but a professional sport, envolving money, sponsors, media, etc. The image of a cowboy with guns is just an image brought by the old movies. Nobody rides a bull or a horse using guns, it's just plain stupid and dangerous.
