Another example, basement-dwelling podcasters who think they're broadcasters despite having no audience and no sponsors. Howard Stern has some epic rants about this lately.
At least those people have produced SOMETHING—but something isn't necessarily saying much. The bar has dropped so unbelievably low, it's essentially disappeared in the age of blogs, YouTube on Amazon authors.
A perfect example of this is Bristol Palin. Apparently she's a featured "writer" on some Christian blog called Patheos. One of her blogs popped in my FB feed a while back so I gave it a look. She basically copy pastas other stories, writes a few sentences about it and throws in a few emoticons. It's awful. It's garbage. She's a talentless hack. Like your friend the Amazon author, she probably fancies herself and refers to herself as a writer. It's a joke.
But pyramid schemes are whole other level of low. They don't produce anything. They just embarrass themselves in front of family and friends with their boilerplate FB posts about "new lines" that are going fast. Nothing more annoying than the "join my team" posts. The is the worst because they're always trying to squeeze a few bucks out of you. I get chills down my spine whenever a friend or family member tries to start the "would you be interested in a second, third or even fourth source of income?" conversation.
