Question for Athiests

I'm not religious, nor do I deny the chance at there being a higher power of some sort.

For the athiests...do you still think about loved ones that have passed and try to make them proud and accomplish feats for them? Being that they are dead and all and there being no afterlife what would be the point?

Atheists would do that for the same reason all people do good--self-gratification.

More in line with my question thanks. I'm really just curious as to whether or not some atheists actually live life dedicating good deeds/success to a passed loved one to make them proud without realizing the hypocritic nature.

if its a dead person i have profound respect for, i try to emulate them. i always want to be a better person, and what better way than to behave like somebody who i view is a great person
