Reminds me of when the Lakers signed Nash and traded for Howard and everyone when bananas with their expectations. Artest, I believe, said they'd break the Bulls' record for most wins. Similarly, the analytic guys projected the Cavs last year at 67 wins with Love. It takes time. We should manage expectations.
I'm hoping for about 60 wins, as long as the rest of the roster isn't bad or filled with a bunch of older players.
It's not like the Spurs added a top 5 player. I'm not even sure the Spurs added a top 10 player. The Spurs also lost key players like Splitter, Belineli, Baynes, and Joseph (will most likely be renounced to make cap space). These were all players who were useful at one situation or another. So it's not like the Lakers' Gasol trade where they gave up peanuts for an all star big or when the Cavs signed Lebron.
The Spurs gambled by breaking up their bench. The Spurs won a championship through run and gun plus 3 point shooting. They will have to retool and run the offense through Aldridge now, which means a different pace. The Spurs still need to prove they can adopt another new offense.

I agree... lots of games where Duncan will just be resting.
Spurs need only to make the playoffs, no need to risk injuries and tire out players achieving a meaningless goal. Let the Warriors go for that le.

If I assume that all the remaining players are going to be just as good as they were when they won the championship then this absolutely is a better team.
Aldridge is a better defensive player than Splitter. He's also not a offensive liability. His mid-range jump is going to open a lot of open space for Leonard and Parker to operate in the inside.
Aldridge can also create his own offense, so we don't need to have Parker on the floor. Spurs can put a better defensive team on the floor. I mean trying scoring against a team with this kind of length:
Anderson - PG 6'8"
Green - SG 6'6"
Leonard - SF - 6'7"
Aldridge - PF - 6'11"
Duncan - C - 6'11"

Under. Even if the Spurs added LMA at no cost to the rest of the roster, I still wouldn't peg them at 66 wins. Pop just has no interest in a meaningless number of victories. The Dubs won 67 last year and were what, 11 games ahead of the Rockets at the end? Who gives a ?
Anyway, I think the Spurs will sniff 60 but it won't be a cakewalk. LMA will have to adjust to the new system, and the loss of Splitter, Baynes, and Marco means the rotations are different now. I'm confident PATFO can and will properly retool the roster, but these Spurs aren't getting into an arms race with Golden State during the regular season.

I think this year we need to rest, Timmy, Manu (duh) and Tony as well. So I don't see us fighting for the number 1 seed. Yes, the warriors and maybe OKC will go for it.
