Neither could Jerry Buss.
He won't be. He's already irrelevant. He gained my respect when he told Buss to go himself.
Neither could Jerry Buss.
Ill never EVER figure out how and why.
Nobody's gonna remember this softass Howard
As another set of coattails for Kirby to ride.
I think what also held Howard back is lack of length and height (He's a "big" 6'8" at best. See the pic of him standing next to 6'9" Bill Russell, but back in Russell's day, they measured players barefoot, Howard probably wore thick sneakers to prop him to 6'10/11", being the self-conscious he is. Also look how Gasol towers over him). Even if he developed a post game, it would've been tough to get his shot off over longer centers. Although he could've been moved to the PF position, but then his lack of jumper would've exposed him there.
Flash-in-the-pan player.
Who?
His prime has become extremely underrated, probably one of the 5-7 best defensive players of all-time at his peak, but he fell of very quickly, and obviously he's very unlikable and mentally weak/soft..
He was also hurt by unrealistic expectations of people wanting him to be Shaq, despite having no similarities outside of playing in Orlando and strong dunking![]()
Damn amb with the old school goods.
Joe BARELY Cares was a awsome dig of a moniker. But at leat Dwight works on .... his physique.
He was a very good, elite defender but id still rather have prime Zo, Big Ben, Hakeem,David, KG, Rodman, Pippen Bowen, and plenty more over him.
I don't have a problem with those other guys, but Bowen is nowhere near him..
Hakeem, Moses Malone, Kareem, Drob, Shaq, Russell, Wilt, Zo, Ewing, Unseld, Mutumbo.....
There's 10 I would rate higher and probably a couple of more. Howard's back injury has done him in. And he is a s of his former self. Still has flashes but he can't sustain night in and night out.
He's a poor man's Aron Baynes with off the court issues.
Biggest waste of talent stupid the league has ever seen.
not legit source..but it i could see it happening, and it would be hilarious after the embarrassing summer episode![]()
He's like a defensive version of Kenneth Faried. Not as undersized but still too small to play the five if he doesn't have elite athleticism. He needs to start reinventing him game, but he's never had that intangible quality that would lead you to think he's going to be able to figure out how to age well like Vince did.
I know, but it was linked on Google News.
Had a team built around him with a top 10 coach in the league. Never been the same without them. Then went on to play for teams who wanted his defensive presence more than anything else.
There were rumors of a potential trade with the Warriors when he was in LA. Would have been good with GS and their elite outside shooting, depending on what pieces they would have to give up to get him.
He's like a black version of Avante tbh
As the most talented Laker in the past decade tbh.
Mourning, Reed, Thurmond, the Gasol brothers ... that's all I can think of. Walton if he wasn't injured all the time as well. I personally won't put Mutombo up there as his offense was just even worse than Dwight's, and if I am going that route I can put Ben Wallace in there as well.
Daugherty was too injury prone (really underrated player), Dan Issel spent most of his days in the ABA, and perhaps Artis Gilmore, Parish, and Yao belongs in the conversation, but overall, there weren't too many centers better than Dwight.
As much as people want to make fun of Dwight, he was really dominant in his prime. It's unfortunate he wasted that talent, and the injuries really finished it off.
