I love TP a ton, but I think it's time to start finding the next starting PG after the GDP (Ginobili, Duncan, Parker) era

Just saying, there are a whole bunch of free agents this year. Teams are going to have to spend to keep the guys they want, because the extra salary cap is going to let some other teams take shots at them. I'm not talking about which teams will improve - just that there's going to be a lot of spending. I'm with you on hoping Tim stays one more year. Add to that the hope that Boban will progress in the offseason, and live up to the potential we see.

Here's a list of some of the better unrestricted and player-option guys for this offseason. Doesn't matter how good everyone thinks they are, or whether they would fit on the Spurs. The point is, lots of them are gonna get paid.

    Unrestricted:
Durant, Horford, DWade, Conley, Hassan Whiteside, Rondo, Batum, Al Jefferson, Ryan Anderson, Pachulia, Bazemore, Jamal Crawford, Deng, Jeff Green, Eric Gordon, Courtney Lee, Mozgov, Teletovic, Mayo, Speights, and a bunch more.

    Player Options:
DeRozan, Pau, Dwight Howard, Chandler Parsons, J.R. Smith, Jeremy Lin, Afflalo, DeRon Williams, DWest. I'm sure I left some out, and I'm not counting guys like LeBron, Dirk, and Tim who aren't going anywhere else.
a lot of quality players and the Spurs could probably nab a couple of them. the scary thing is how much money GS will have though. Horford and Bazemore would be nice

It's going to be very interesting to see RC truly earn his paycheck these next few years with Duncan and Ginobili potentially leaving.
Yeah because he's not done anything to earn his paycheck so far, right?

Truly ask yourself how much of his success was due to him by himself, or due to...

    yaaaaaaaaay you.

Ryan Anderson would be sick on the Spurs, not sure what he makes though.

Dang man. Parker's contract seems Kobe-esque. Curry is slated to make $12,112,359 next year too. Ouch. Hope he can pick up his play and earn that pay when it matters.
Lol, Duncan was making $20+ million in 2011 and getting annihilated by the likes of Zach Randolph. Parker will never in his career be a top-30 paid player in any season. And yet he finished 6th in MVP voting twice, and 12th twice more. He has been severely underpaid in his career.

With the salary cap increase Leonard's deal will be a bargain for the Spurs.
Even without it. There was an article showing how he was the best bang for his buck; being underpaid by like something like 90 mil or something. If someone has it, post it.

The Spurs were really fortunate to lock up Kawhi & Aldridge before the cap increases dramatically... That puts them in a great spot for the next 4 years! Think of OKC-- Durant will take a max contract much bigger than either KL's or LMA's if he stays (and that's a big if) and then the following year they'll face the same situation with Westbrook... so even if Durant & Westbrook do return to the Thunder, that team will still be in the position of having less money to spend on depth than the Spurs will.... so it'll be the same situation as it is right now.

I think the biggest need for the Spurs is a guard who can handle the ball, someone who can pair with either Mills or D Green when Parker's sitting-- the most interesting guy I see who fits that bill is Nick Batum, who could be a Bulls era Ron Harper type of PG when needed and a mini version of prime Manu when playing the 2 guard. He's got a lot of Spur connections, having played with Mills & Aldridge in Portland and with Tony & Boris on the French National team.

The Spurs will need a PG upgrade at some point but I don't think that'll be possible next season with Parker's contract, unless Mills is used in a trade... Batum, who could potentially play 3 positions, looks to me to be the best & most flexible option...

Batum will get a 20M$ per year contract this summer. Spurs will not give him that kind of money, and i doubt he would agree to take a huge discount just to play for the spurs.

How do you figure Batum getting $20M? He's a 4th or 5th option, at best. He's a career 11.7 pt scorer, and his best season was 14.9. He's never been an All Star or All NBA player, and even though he hangs his hat on defense, he's never made the All D team, either. Things will be crazy this summer, but not that crazy. I see his absolute ceiling at $10M, and he's more likely to get the MLE.

I think your projection is completely unrealistic. He'll get at least what Wes Matthews got unless he takes a major discount to go to a team like SA. He'll be worth whatever it takes so long as the team has good players in place already.

There's no chance Batum will get $10m per on a $92 mil cap. There will be $1.2 billion in available cap space in the summer with a cap floor at about $81 mil and as many as 20 potential max slots. Batum and others will get paid outrageous money.

This year, batum is the 1st/2nd option in the hornet's team, who finish tie to the 3rd place in the east (and play without MKG all year), with 15 pts / 6 rb / 6p, and a big role in the good season of K. Walker.

You can go read Hornet's forum on realgm, they are all prepared to a 100M/5yrs max offer from their FO this summer.

They're will be a huge load of money available this summer, and a few good player to spend it on.

Batum for 10M or less this summer is an absolute joke !

I think batum could command a 12 to 15 million a year contract. If demare carol got that last year then why shouldn't batum this year. Batum 》carroll.

Parker has taken less than he was worth for almost his entire career. He deserves what he is making now. And with the cap going up, it really isnt going to hurt the Spurs. I mean, they already have Kawhi and LMA locked down.

Damn, I hadn't seen it aggregated. I'd love to know how many roster spots, across the league, aren't under contract.

Less than half roster spots are under contract, though not sure if that's counting the players with options, who are clearly going to decline them and become FAs.
