That was an embarrassing interview and Simmons is supposed to be a good NBA guy. His guest says, they have like 4 1/4 championships and Simmons agrees. Lebron has a le in a strike shortened year. Do we knock that down a notch too? If the Bulls had won that le in 99 nobody would have said about it..

because of that, case could be made, that if they played a whole season, the LAkers might have been closer to the 3 peat lakers, who clearly were better than better subsequent spurs teams.
Its not a good argument. But it was a laker fan who invented it.
In all fairness Simmons usually gives major props to the Spurs and writes good stuff about them too.
I will say this though, SA would be out of shape in 99 as well so where is the advantage when they all play the same amount of games? I don't see it.

Who was going to be better in 99? I think the Spurs were destined to win in 99. Putting an asterisk is disingenuous, imo.
Nobody. Had the Bulls returned in 1999 I believe the Spurs would have beat them. The bulls had struggled in 1998 in the playoffs against the Pacers and in the finals against the jazz. Jordan was still Jordan for the most part, but Pippen was all beat up and not nearly as effective by then. That's Spurs team had an incredible defense and Duncan who was going to dominate any big put in front of him in that series.
Oh yes another thing, the banners still hang no matter what any bitter hater says about those les. They got a ring and trophy and its in the record books... Get over it.
