The first time he went up against the HATED Utah Jazz in the playoffs and showed Malone these aren't the Spurs you can push around, slapping Dave's arms til they're redder than an Injun, like you did year after year.
That was the moment I knew he was the One. Our team is getting us some damn les, Finally! This guy brushes off Karl Malone like DR couldn't dream and the dominoes started to fall from there.

And he did. He brought us les. He did even more than that. He turned little San Antonio from a joke of a team, and they were, into the most respected team of all time.
Two decades of elite service. To a tiny south Texas team that couldn't entertain free agents, and still gets little respect (but much more now) from the MSM.

He deserves more than a statue. He deserves a whole stadium built in his name.

I know it was just a regular season game, but against Portland in 2000 (i think), the Spurs were down, and Drob got ejected, which was very rare. Following Drob's ejection, Timmy just got that look in his eye, like get on my back, were going to win this look. The Spurs came back and won the game.

Another was when Tim picked up a total BS foul against Carmelo in the playoffs. The game was in Denver. Timmy had the whole starting group gather around him before he left the court, and you could see that animated TD who was ticked about the call, and wanted to make sure the Spurs pulled out the game, which they did.

It was different to see the poker face vanish, and the absolute compe or's face show through. In no way am I implying that TD isn't a fierce compe or when he had the poker face...we all know he was. I always appreciated that TD walked the walk.

Oh, another was in 2005 in the WC semis I believe. The game was in Seattle, it was game 6, 4th quarter. Timmy had been destroying the Sonics, then he landed awkward and hurt his ankle...left I believe. The Sonics fans were being totally classless and cheering when Timmy was on laying on the court holding his ankle. Timmy got up, in total defiance of the cheering crowd and went to the line and hit both (I think) free throws. Well, the Spurs were down by one when Manu had the ball in the back court. Manu patiently surveyed the situation, ran some clock, the shot a bullet pass to Timmy, and Timmy hit the game winner, knocking Seattle out of the playoffs.

If you recall the series I eluded to above, that was when Jerome James said they gave the Spurs "no respect" after Seattle won game 3 on their home court. It was such a satisfying win, but the Spurs had many bumps and bruises when they met Detroit in the Finals.

So fitting that Duncan closed them out. That was the last time the city of Seattle saw the Sonics in the playoffs. Ray Allen played up his ankle injury trying to get Bowen suspended. Captain Gladbag playing Amare, the fans cheering Duncan's ankle. Absolutely great. And Manu crushed the city of Denver that same year. What a great run.

Manu single-handedly placed Karl in a padded cell after that series and he never recovered from it.

And what became of the Glad Bag wearing James? Didn't the Knicks of all teams sign him, and then he sucked badly and just faded into obscurity after having his 20 minutes of fame?

All of his prime from 98-99' through 03'.

When he was in his athletic prime he was an absolute monster. Young crowd doesn't really remember or really know how incredible that Duncan was.

He could have won more les than two during that span if he didn't have to carry 85 year old Terry Porter, 58 year old Danny Ferry, and no back David Robinson/Mark Bryant through the playoffs in the early 00's.

^^I hate that newer NBA fans think Tim played with 2013-2014-level supporting casts his entire career, along with the "magical Pop system"

They have no idea the type of ty supporting casts Duncan was playing with in the early 2000s..the numbers-oriented fans understand the dominance of the 2003 run, but the rest don't..

The threepeat Lakers are lucky that the Spurs had one of their top two players hurt each year of their run.
