oh that was a joke? no weeding out necessary?
The fact is it's impossible to vet them thoroughly. There is just no way to get accurate background information from these predominately muslim countries, especially, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Pakistan, etc.

Knowing that, personally I see no reason to go way out of our way to import them.

Look at the mess in Europe.

I understand that it is the progressive stance to damn the torpedos and go full speed ahead on importing hundreds of thousands on humanitarian grounds. I get that that is your position and I respect the compassion, I just question the ultimate result.

I have read that more than half of the refugees in Europe are totally illiterate. They can't read and write even in their own language. how does someone like that assimilate in an industrialized western economy?

Technically it probably wouldn't hurt anything if we did, but the fact is they are already us citizens. Instead of focusing our attention on them why would we want to import hundreds of thousands more?

You're exaggerating the scale of US compassion. The US has committed to bringing in 10,000 refugees -- do you think our society is too fragile to handle it?

oh really? Hillary is promising at least 65,000 from Syria alone.

As for the Middle East and North Africa here are the stats...

    http://www.migrationpolicy.org/artic...-united-states

The removal of the quota system with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 opened the door to the third wave—a mix of people seeking family reunification, education and employment opportunities, and safety from war and persecution. Post-1965 MENA immigrants had a similar level of education to those in the second wave, but were far more numerous. And a much higher percentage was Muslim. Between 1980 and 2010, the size of the MENA immigrant population increased four-fold, from 223,000 to 861,000; and between 2010 and 2013 increased a further 18 percent, to 1,017,000.

Maybe the U.S. should just start making it's own Iphones so that all the refugees can have some meaningful work.

that's not 100s of thousands, CC. not even close. your penchant for exaggeration in this forum is already firmly established -- your last post just underscores it.

10,000 is the number Obama committed to and has reached -- after five years of civil war in Syria.

you also might have noticed it's a political promise. it doesn't mean .

    We're at 10,000 today.

Do you trust Obama to keep his promises?

Also, why would 100,000 be too many?

You think we couldn't handle it?
