there's no way he gets away with running a center-right campaign or anything near that. he's the teabagger jesus... hacks like levin (same who was backing huelskamp) like him more than reagan tbh

they adore him for his uncompromising principles, etc
After being a devout #NeverTrumper he just endorsed Trump. His ratings must have dropped

If we have a significant recession in the next 4 years (likely imo) they can win even with bad choices.

I came to want Trump to win the primaries basically to cause the introspection you're talking about. I'm not all that confident it's going to happen when I listen to #nevertrump conservative "leaders" who think Trump is a celebrity one off and after he loses they can get back to business as usual. More and more I'm starting to think it will take a Trump victory to cause both parties to start considering actual governance and results as part of their job description instead of just ideological purity and winning the next election cycle.
It's possible. I just find it disingenuous to point fingers to the other party when perhaps the biggest issue for the party right now is that the base won't pick a candidate with a better chance to get elected.

Pragmatism in politics has always been key. Heck, even Trump was pragmatic in that he said everything the base wanted to hear, even though he was far off the "purity test".

You need to get in power if you want to actually make or change the rules. For the GOP, when it comes to general elections, it has to be about winning, not who's more pure or says X or Y.

I don't know if he would've pulled it off, but I can totally see him trying to fit in. Ted Cruz is not an idiot. He's a way more seasoned politician than people give him credit for.

it's pretty hard for immigrants to get citizenship and much harder to vote.

but once they get here and get citizenship, you can hardly blame them for voting for the party that doesn't demonize them as criminals, job stealers/lazy moochers and brainless sheep.
You are suggesting the right lies. Painting an improper picture, by extension, you are the liar.

The right has no problems with immigration. There is legal and illegal immigrants. The right has a problem with those who are illegal.

Those who came here legally understand this. Many of them resent the illegals, not going through the process they had to. Nobody appreciates the first grade bully cutting in line.

Obama has been harsher than anyone since Eisenhower. The Border Patrol is bigger than it's ever been, border enforcement and deportations are at an all time high.
You mean the extra border control authorized by the prior administration? Do you think they become qualified the day they are hired?

Why are you a chronic deceiver of facts?

Wino can defend himself, but he didn't say anything that wasn't true. It's hard for illegals to get papers, but they certainly can (ie: marriage with a US citizen). You can call that whatever, except a lie.

We can then argue if such process if fair, right or wrong, but it's here and it's true.

"The right has a problem with those who are illegal"

The illegality of illegals is a rigthwingnut LIE hiding the real objective of maintaining Euro-white supremacy,

just as voter fraud is a LIE for suppressing the vote of blacks and browns,

    just as
shutting down (poor black, brown) women's health clinics is a LIE for "protecting women's health"

just as unregulated gun sales is a LIE for protecting/increasing the profits of BigGun

etc, etc. There's NOTHING, not single issue, on the right that ISN'T A LIE

It isn't immigration that's marginalising the Republican party. It is 8 years of disinformation and conspiracy theories that Obama is a Muslim / atheist, Kenyan / Indonesian, Communist / Fascist, dictator / wimp who is both lazy and works 24/7 to destroy America - which has resulted in a rabid base that cheers a mentally unstable, unfit con artist of a nominee when he trashes the military and praises a former KGB agent turned dictator.

The base doesn't give a damn about fiscal discipline, individual liberty, national security, international allies, morality or even decency anymore. All you have is white iden y politics and a burning hatred for Obama, Hillary and the Democratic party. Trump's candidacy is the equivalent of a long overdue enema for the GOP. However, this will only end well if he loses in a landslide and the GOP overhauls itself. Otherwise the nativist / bigoted fringe takes center stage, and down the rabbit hole we go.

The base is still butthurt over a black man in office, they'll probably be less so once it's a white woman.

I'm not so sure. HRC is still the second most unpopular politician ever. Winning could put her in first place all time.

That she's white might help a little, that she's a woman, probably not so much.
