I would rather wave Simmons. But I assume the author thinks if you keep an extra big you have to sacrifice a big?
Good question. I took the hard-hitting question to the streets and found a celebrity Spurs fan who gave me the consensus answer:

Then I hit up my guy at the FBI:

We live in a sad state of celebrity Spurs fandom.
She's nice to look at but I have no idea who this is.
Me neither, but she gots the goods. Knows more than most of us about the team, tbh...
Maybe. I actually think Livo's shown progress over the past few games. Definitely thinks he's earned time in Austin to find out. But right now, the Spurs have six guards with guaranteed deals, Kawhi, Anderson, Bertans and then five bigs. Seems like keeping a seventh guard and cutting a guy for another fifth big is odd.
Also disagree that Lapro isn't in the lead right now. He's only three years older than Forbes and seems like he can actually play the position his size dictates.
Would assume you're taking a jab at Selena Gomez (a move I'd support, btb), but you live far enough away that you can legit just not know who she is.
Selena Gomez is a dime.
Would destroy that teeny .
Just my kind of girl.
Sadly, the later.
Out of innocent (I mean it!) curiosity, why would you support such a conflagration? That seems silly and needless. She's just a pop star, like the Monkees and the Beatles, back in the day... She can be a fan of a sports team, just like you.
Did she do something that has irked you, out of hand?
You dirty so and so... at least she ain't under-aged.
With a teeny
I don't hate her. But I do think she's lame and overhyped. So someone pretending not to know who she is seems rather appropriate.
I wasn't pretending. I know the name of course, but didn't recognize the face.
They also assume Laprovittola doesn't make the team. He has been the front runner for me, though all 3 guys have a good chance.
The SAExpress News writers have been pimping Forbes a lot. I think they have their favorites and their least liked just like everyone here.
I agree with you though. Livio looks improved. He doesn't deserve the cut if one looks at him in perspective. He looked like a pile of dodo in summer league (sorry Chinook), but since then he has been hitting a midrange jumper he didn't have, and has been executing what they want to do better.
They are likely to less satisfied with 27 yr. old J.Simms who has gotten Spurs coaching for 4 seasons now (if you count the 2 dleague seasons as one should). He has been using something like 28% of the possessions when he's on the floorwhich seems excessive, (that is higher than Kiwi levels who is at 27%, to give you an idea). I remember one of the things that sunk Daye among others was that he had this huge usage % that was unjustified by his talent level.
I have also liked Laprovittola handling the ball better than when JSimms does it TBH. Laprovittola gets others involved better. One almost gets the feeling with Simmons that unless it is a transition basket, giving him the ball is going to end up in a selfish shot. I haven't liked what he's doing out there.
The only thing I can think of with him is that they need him for depth. Manu is 39 and will need rest. Spurs are one wing injury away from Anderson playing at least 30 minutes per game. Then you add in Manu's age etc, and the wing situation is fragile. Even when Dijon may be be able to help at the SG spot, he's a rook, he doesn't shoot, he's super skinny and will get bullied by real NBA wings. It's dicey.
Anyways, I don't think they can be happy with Simmons and I hope they reign in that high usage for example, but they need him for depth. There is no other way around it. If they get fed up with him, I'd go with Garino, not with the guys SAExpress projects. I am sure some would take Garino over Simmons right now.
Agree with you on Lapro. I think he's the front runner too and I like Forbes a lot. I would be happy with either guy, but I think Lapro is the better player right now bc he's more versatile and as you said has a skillset that matches his size.
I would be happy with Garino too.
Less enthused with Anthony bc he's a similar player as Dedmon, but I can see his usefulness too.
In reality this crop of camp invitees is better than last season.
Nice post.
Not only do I have no idea who'll make the team, I really have no idea whom I'm rooting for. As you and others have said, the invites this year were really high caliber. As soon as anyone gets cut I know I'll have buyers remorse. (Maybe not the appropriate analogy). I really thought for a while Garino would make the squad, but frankly I have no idea.
Your point about Manu's age is well-taken. But then they will carry as many as 6-7 guards. It shouldn't be a problem.
Okay, I'm babbling...
bombastic news, tbh...

Nah that is fine.... that is all I do babble lol
They just need the wing depth bc of Manu IMO. You can't assume he will give you over 65-70 games at his age with luck, give or take. Then you add in a likely injury for someone else (Kiwi, Danny and Anderson are all young but if you are RC and Pop, you can't assume those 3 will give you 82 games each. That is excessively good odds. One of them will get some nag through the season)... So you need a 5th wing that is somewhat experienced bc that dude will play the Manu rest/injury minutes and the other wings minutes when needed (plus gobble up garbage time).
We were chatting with GSH and others in one of the game threads if the team could spare Simmons bc him and Murray are almost exactly the same player right this second while one is 20 and the other 27. They are very similar (right down to the high usage), except Murray really needs help finishing in the paint and is very inefficient for the kind of game he has and I think Simmons being older and already experienced at this stage Pop will expect a lot more out of him, whereas Murray if he's messing up out there, he can be dleague bound bc he needs it. With Simmons Pop is not going to be easy going. If he doesn't work out, that is where the midseason pick ups come in place (whether Garino, a trade, or someone else).
Either way, like you I haven't liked Simmons much but I think they keep him for Manu insurance for now.
Who is that chick Bill Clinton is dancing with?![]()
Oh snap! That's Larry Blamire's wife!
