Even suggesting that Trump won because whites hated the progress being made is racist at worst and fear-mongering at best.

There is no doubt had Obama been allowed to run again he would have won so that eliminates that line of logic.

So racist old white America that somehow accidentally elected a black president (twice) after 8 years just said "welp we gave this whole equal opportunity thing a shot and nope, we hate it?"

Also, with all the complaining and spot light and how bad minoriores have it in today's America doesn't that wildly contradict the now saying "all the progress is set back to slavery!!"

What progress? I don't see BLM talking about progress made (unless I missed it)

I thought Van Jones was so well spoken and had many great insights but this was a shameful spotlight grab to pander and elevate his catch phrase (he's using it like a marketing tool).

It also shows the absolutely terrible issues within the DEMs failing to even see why they lost to Donald freakin Trump.

You truly don't get it. Iden y politics is precisely what precipitates the backlash. That way of viewing the world is what enables the rise of people like Trump. It's a bankrupt world view and not a good agent for change.
Wait, how is a hope that we won't return to discriminating against particular groups of people an exercise in "iden y politics?"

They've been historically discriminated against, that's a fact. They have recently made progress in overcoming that discrimination, that's a fact. There's a legitimate concern that those advancements might be undone, which creates a legitimate fear, largely because Republican congressmen have suggested that they want to pass laws that will undo those advancements. That, in my view, would be a bad thing for our society.

In specifically targeting those advancements, are the Republicans engaging in iden y politics, too, in your view?

Im worried about the majority, atomization of our society into small little interest groups is bad. We need an iden y and gay isn't it
So what would you do about that? Allow any discrimination that the majority wishes to impose?

No, I don't believe government should be involved in marriage that's a religious ins ution. Let them form legal unions and get the same tax benefits or whatever but don't glorify sexuality. sexuality weakens the nation via divisions and lowered birth rates but im not going to micromanage each and every person, they're free to live their lives.

I was more focused on your tepid defense of the comments made in the OP. I take no issue with the actual history of discrimination. I do take issue with the notion of a "white-lash" that ascribes fault in a disenguine way.

Trying to pigeonhole me as a republican defender ain't going to work either. They, as well as team blue, can be wrong at the same time.

Marriage and sexuality both preceded religion, especially the 3 Abrahamic ones.

Also, not sure how gay marriage weakens you. How are you specifically affected when you see 2 men getting married? Do you have bad thoughts or experience latent urges? Maybe see a therapist instead of trying to ask the government to create a safe space for you.

I'm not trying to pigeonhole you as anything. I'm trying to figure out why you criticized me for engaging in iden y politics when my sole point was to urge that re-normalizing discrimination would be a bad thing.

Never mind who coined the term. Take some personal responsibility and sort out your issues before whining to your government.

As I said before, I think the racial part of that is overblown.

But Jones didn't just talk about race last night, and that's the part that I decided to talk about. He observed that the outcome of the election has fostered fear in a number of groups and I think that's pretty much both a spot on observation and a well-founded concern about the way a Republican government seems likely to try to function.

The white man's opinion on America isn't going to change following Trump's victory, tbh..the only difference is that they will be more vocal about it, rather than keeping it to themselves(excluding anonymous posters on the internet)..

That's what I never understood about the Liberal coverage of this election..just because they aren't making their hate and fear public, you can't act like it doesn't exist

As I've been saying since the beginning, I'll take the racists that don't lie to my face, rather than the racists that act like we mean something to them..

You can project your views on me all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that on this particular issue, you want government to step in and tend to your delicate sensibilities. You call yourself conservative, man up and take personal responsibility. Don't go whining to Daddy Trump for protection.
