That's a hypothetic question. A factual statement is that David West killed the Spurs that game in his limited minutes and Kawhi hurt the team with his poor shooting and turnovers. Period.

We're worried about West vs Lee two series in advance?
West was dog against Lee in 2 out of the 3 games this year versus the Spurs. He had one fluke game and now everyone is proclaiming he owns the Spurs.
David West might've ended his career. Just hasn't been the same since that game.
I was thinking of bumping this thread tonight
Lee is making Spurs West look like Hakeem Olajuwon
Good thing we wont make the West Finals to see West behead Lee on national tv
Just can't put all your marbles behind a white American player....
Pop needs to sit Lee and play Bertans
Also play Simmons and not Manure
And maybe even play Murray over Porker
I agree with all 3 of these. Let Parker and Mills battle it out for the backup spot. 1 half each.
As I've been saying all year, people here quickly forgot that David West was really solid during the RS, prior to his post-season meltdown..hopefully this isn't deja-vu with David Lee, tbh..would love to see Bertans ahead of him, but Pop won't play an inexperienced player over a veteran until it's desperation time and the Spurs are on the brink of elimination..
Spot on tbh
Anybody who has the game recorded should go back and look at the last few minutes of the first quarter. What Randolph did to Lee was criminal.
I took a lot of when the Spurs signed Lee, for saying he is too small to play in the middle, against playoff-caliber bigs. He's a great player, and I love his energy and determination. But dammit, he's not big enough to body up against guys like Randolph - especially in the playoffs when the refs let the paint turn into WrestleMania. It's not a shortcoming in his game, it's just a shortcoming in his size.
I think it's bull how the refs let Z-Bo play. If he didn't like where Lee was, he just put both hands on him and shoved him someplace else. They always allow him to do a certain amount of that, because "that's just his game". But in the playoffs he's a ing bull in a china shop. But that doesn't change the fact that Lee is just doesn't stand a chance because of the size difference.
What does Pop do moving forward is the question. The first couple of games Zbo settled for a lot of jumpshots. In the second game he made a few of those. The first game he was awful in general and off.
But now he's found his game and he's not scared of Lee obviously
I re-watched it. He swung Lee around like a rag doll.
^ that was the question what to do about that. Lee is not going to be able to put up resistance.... maybe match him up with Dedmon?
I don't know.
I am tempted to suggest Davis bc as ragdolls go at least that one shoot and Zbo cannot guard him.
What if the coaching staff change the sl a little bit,
Dedmon, Lamarcus, then Bertans, Kawhi and Mills
Gasol, Lee, Parker, Simmons and Green at guard for the second unit
That way, we have at least 3 shooters per line-up, just a simple fan's opinion..........
Oh, I knew what you meant. I just don't always trust my first impression of things, from when I watch the game live. After watching it a second time, and really looking at that matchup, it was worse than I thought. You're dead right - I don't know what Pop can do, or is going to do. But that matchup is a loser. I think maybe Bertans could get under his skin enough to do something stupid. At least get him to commit some cheap fouls. But that's always been the big problem with Randolph - under playoff rules, he's hard to handle. it isn't basketball, but if the refs allow it, he'd be a damn fool not to do it.
---------------------------------------------
Bertans could play the starting small forward, a la Bird
and then Kawhi is our MJ
why not right?
The big problem with that is that it doesn't seem like the Spurs can have three shooters making shots in the same game, much less at the same time. Pau has been drilling 3's ever since he came back from that injury. Not tonight. Danny knocked down some 3's in the first two games. Not tonight.
Tony just can't take the paint against this team. To be honest, I'd like to see Pop draw up some plays to get Tony some open looks at corner 3's. He shoots them pretty well, and it would at least force Memphis to bend their D a little bit.
--------------------------------------
Parker and Green stabilizes that second unit, better playmaking than the chaos of Old Man Manu
With the improved shooting of Simmons, he joins Pau and Danny as the shooters of the subs utes.
Why not give it a try.....
Can't trust Simmons to shoot well .... he's 30%for the season and might have blown his quota in this game but if Manu is going to be a 0 out there Pop is going to have to mix Simmons up.
I hope he gets a few minutes if Manu doesn't have it frankly.
Thanks. I was wondering how all of a sudden Zbo became prime Shaq. He was handling LaMarcus easily too, iirc.
Even if the Spurs can match up the physicality, there's no guarantee the refs won't use double standards. In any case, Spurs don't have someone like him. I hope this is just a one game thing so the series is done in 5.
OTOH, flopping could be useful now![]()
