Pop going ham on the team![]()
"Pop basically called the entire team sans Simmons a bunch of Pussies in the post game press conference".
About two hours after every single poster on ST had said it at least once. Get with the program, Pop.
Pop going ham on the team![]()
I wasn't being false either.
I read a lot of stuff. Some guys do have really interesting takes.. but when someone keeps on with the same thing over and over and no substance about anything else it does tire me. Atl Spur is not nearly that bad.. I could have ignore it. He really doesnt' post often but when he does it's get rid of LMA, Anderson and Green they don't compete etc.
I would disagree bc I think LMA is the one who is very talented but doesn't compete. I think Danny competes but he's limited offensively and Anderson is limited too in role, in minutes, in opportunities and in talent. He's skilled at some things and not others. So I disagree with his generic evaluation.
Hopefully Pop has a moment where the team doesn't listen to him anymore. He needs to be humbled.
Pop doesn't call out an individual player, most times he plays the soft card about the whole team, blah blah...But he already said "Lamarcus has to score for us. He can't be timid. He turned down shots"
Basically...Scared and soft.
Before the playoffs I thought the Spurs wouldn't trade him, he is their first big-name FA in years, trading him wouldn't sound good if they want to lure future FAs in 2018-19 without his contract and Parker's.
But now...IDK.
Meh, almost everyone in the mainstream knows LMA has blown these playoffs.
I think you keep the team together as much as possible next year. We're too close to blow it up. It's Golden States time right now. Just look at their luck. I'm not going basketball gods or anything but we'll see if fortune favors kawhi and his teams like how fortune favored the big 3 of old. I believe kawhi will have his time and you plan for his future in this series and you show up to the dance and when it's time it's time. I also believe the narrative here if we lose this series having a 6 like effect even if it's just against the Warriors.
The org is held hostage by LMA and Gasol anyway, doesn't matter.
Melo??...If fans call LMA soft, they will roast Melo-no effort/no defense after his first 5 minutes as Spur.
This team isn't made up of quitters. You actually have to start in order to quit and they didn't even do that. Simmons came to play though. Everyone else sucked ass.
good take raybies.
I have missed you friend.
You show up just in the nick of time with the draft lottery given to teams tonight lol
I kind of agree, but I think Pau is holding the team down. I like Lamarcus the roleplayer but he's obviously no star right now. JSimms needs to get paid and he deserves it. Tony is questionable, Manu is retiring and really needs to retire. etc. Even if they wanted to keep this crew together this had the makings of a one hit wonder.
Look at this video of Aldridge from 3 years ago and tell me he hasn't quit on the Spurs. Seriously.
That's who the Spurs thought they were getting. Not the soft, mentally-weak garbage wearing # 12.
Shaq/Kobe Lakers pounded us pretty good in 2001 and 2002 but Spurs turned it around in 2003. Things change in sports. Don't give up yet.![]()
I'm talking about Pop calling him out in front NBA media after a playoff game. Can't remember the last time he did that, mentioning a player in this way.
However, one game won't affect LMA's status on the team but looking at his poor regular season and most playoffs games...it should
I mean, if you are a star and you have high expectations of yourself, you should be your own biggest critic. If a mentally-sound star heard the rant and watched aldridge play this whole playoffs, he knows its warranted.
The big disappointment was Aldridge. The rest of the guys are role players. By the time a team reaches the Conference Finals, they aren't going to get it done with role players. They need an anchor - probably two, but the Spurs don't have that luxury. All the rest are role players - either because of their age, or because they just aren't as good.
Almost from the opening tip, LMA was turning down shots and dumping the ball to anyone in sight. Simmons doesn't have Aldridge's pedigree, but he basically said, "Gimme the damn ball." That's who Aldridge was supposed to be out there. Make or miss, he's supposed to be saying, "Gimme the damn ball." With him looking scared, the other guys didn't stand a chance.
I guess RJ looked dominant in NJ too. But not all players can lead with the pressure of playing for a successful team like the Spurs with high expectations
If you get a player and that player sucks what else can you do? dwert went from LA to HOU to ATL.
Part of it is that he has checked out but the other part is that I don't think the spurs system is a fun system to play in. It's a very difficult system to learn. I remember Horry once saying it took him 1 year to learn the spurs system and he has one of the highest BB IQ's ever. Barry another guy with a high BB IQ had the same problems that Horry did with learning the system at first. I think this is even more damning for LMA since his BB IQ is not as high as those guys so he has to be frustrated by playing in this system. The only guys who do well in the Spurs system is guys who the Spurs develop or guys with high BB IQ's.
he's definitely not playing like a star.
I don't know if it's his not getting in good shape, being past his prime or just wanting to leave his "alpha" days behind and coattail Kawhi or what.
That was probably his best game ever, wasn't it? A lot of shots fell that night. What's missing now is him bullying his way into the paint.
giving him #12 was the biggest mistake ...
He had no problems when TD was there, I guess he is not ¨real deal¨material, the kind of player that makes things like championships happen.
He still played the same. He's just getting doubled/tripled more.
That is exactly what I thought. and in hindsight Pop even took it easy on Lamarcus bc he said "they ALL" came in with a kind of belief that they didn't have a chance and it was foregone conclusion they would lose. He only spoke about Jon and Aldridge when asked specifically about them. His initial speech was about the entire team not believing.
