    No. Stop that...

The league may "pressure" him but he wants to move here not there...

San Antonio is a better deal than LA ... LA is a lot of cosmetic bull ...

SA is ez $$ and stable growth.

We have superior water to all of California.. LA running out of water and high on assholes.

Benson does not want to live / work / stay in LA.
I agree with you Vash...I just think that Tags will do all he can to persuade Benson to go to LA.

Oh, I'm not doubting that the crowd is enjoying an "NFL game", b/c many people will never get another chance to see an NFL game. I'm talking about a team everyone is going crazy over, and a couple of months ago I would pretty guess that mostly everyone here wasn't thinking "Saints".

Doing a crappy job supporting the Saints? No! Supporting the Spurs? Sure! The city is concentrating on trying to sell out these 4 home games, and the Spurs with their 3 championships are still having trouble selling out their games. Hmmmmmmm!

If the games were'nt televised on local T.V. the Spurs would have a sell out every game, PERIOD!

Everyone es about Los Angeles but you have to consider this, the NFL has been trying for years to get a team in Los Angeles. Expansion, relocation, the NFL wants a team in Los Angeles and will do so no matter what even with all that has happened.

If the NFL does come into the Alamodome, we can only hope we don't end up like Jacksonville, covering up sections in the stadium to avoid blackouts. We talk about the sellout this past Sunday, you do realize that approximately 40,000 seats remain unsold for the Dec. 24 game?

I'm not going to comment on Baton Rouge because the state has been hit with not one but TWO hurricanes in one months time.

There has been precedent of leagues stopping a team from moving, the Giants leaving San Francisco to Tampa, Fla., and the Timberwolves leaving Minnesota for New Orleans. Although, I think it may be unusual in the case of the NFL, but the NFL can vote against a move to San Antonio.

Agree! The NFL Commissioner will do everything possible to get the Saints in LA after this season. I say let them go, then the people who keep bashing San Antonio for trying to keep them here, will have a new battle and wish they kept their mouths shut about them possibly moving here. If they do move to LA I can see them saying... "AWWW, I should've kept my mouth shut, and not bash San Antonio" "Now I'm never going to go see them play....Boooo Whoooo whooooo" If a team were to relocate here, I'd rather have the Colts than the Saints anyway! Or just give us an expansion team. I don't want people outside of San Antonio viewing the good citizens of this city as looters, theives or dirty bas s for having the Saints play here next year. Let Los Angeles fight that war. They will be mediocre at best. I want to see good football played consistently.
San Antonio has to sell out that Detroit game as well for any of this to matter. If we don't, it's going to be a set back to what we've accomplished to date. Get tickets as X-mas gifts, or stocking stuffers. We got to have a good showing that game!!

I remember New Orleans trying real hard to steal the Spurs away from us in 1998-99. Funny how things work out.
In listening to and reading the complaints coming from Louisiana, I was struck by that irony. Somehow, it was okay for them to openly campaign to bring the Spurs to NOLA, but when the Saints are looking around to move, it's not okay for San Antonio to court them. Ridiculous.

It seems that the only parties who are against the idea of a Saints move are some citizens of Lousiana (and particularly New Orleans) and a bunch of whiny Cowboys fans who are more interested in preserving their Sunday tradition of watching the Cowboys on TV than in what's good for the City of San Antonio.

Hey Cowboy fan -- 3 words: NFL SUNDAY TICKET.

Cowboys fans who are against a Saints move to SA based on fact that they won't get to see their precious Cowboys are Exhibit A in Paul Tagliabue's "small market" argument (and precisely the reason why Jerry Jones will never, ever, ever vote to support any team's move (or the award of an expansion franchise) to San Antonio).

    hypathetical question...
Im just wondering how many people would support the Saints as their #1 team if
they moved to SA? Would all the Cowboys fans convert to the Saints or would the Cowboys still be your #1 team? I am a Dolphins fan and they would stay my #1 and Saints #2. I just dont know if I could get as excited for the Saints as I do for the teams I already support. I guess it would take some time.

That's right, including a public statement from the mayor about our election and Houston's election for an NBA Arena.

I can live with that. I, for one, will never support a NFL franchise move to San Antonio. I love watching the Cowboys on TV with an occasional visit to watch a home game live and watching the Spurs live as much as I can. I like things the way they are. I don't need the lowly Saints taking the TV time and news coverage from my beloved Boys.

I, for one, couldn't. In fact, I'd likely grow to resent the Saints over time because they'd take attention away from the Cowboys. I remember when the Oilers had training camp in San Antonio. For a while, I had to endure the Oilers coverage overtaking the Cowboy's coverage during training camp. After that, I learned to hate the Oilers real quick.

This is the problem: if you want a team, you really can't get picky about what team you get.

Good football played consistently? You mean like the NFL's last two expansion teams (Cleveland and Houston)?

Expansion teams don't play good football consistently and no expansion team will ever again get the sweetheart deal that Jacksonville and Carolina got, which allowed them to be compe ive immediately.

You're such an idiot. Foolishing spending your money to bring an NFL franchise to San Antonio isn't gonna help the progress of this city. Has an NFL franchise helped New Orleans' progress over the years. I think not.

Instead of foolishing spending city funds to attract an NFL franchise, we should be spending our city funds to attract large corporations. At least then, we'll have the higher earning wages necessary to keep our graduates in town instead of moving off to greener pastures in other cities. Only then will we be improving the progress of this city.

  18. #43
The real argument is...wouldn't you like to be able to go to a NFL game where you live?

If the Cowboys mean that much to you, order up the league pass.

I agree with your latter point, but I think you're foolish if you think the two issues don't go hand-in-hand. Corporations move to cities where there are amenities. The broad category of amenities includes things like weather, favorable terms, sound infrastructure, and any number of diversions. While favorable terms are undoubtedly the most important part of the equation, the simple possibility of offering favorable terms doesn't give a city a chance to lure great corporations. Corpus Christi could offer no taxes ever and offer to pay an annual stipend to a major corporation to entice it to move there, but the corporation isn't likely to bite even on those favorable terms. There's obviously another part of the equation, and that encompasses quality of life, which includes, among other things, the availability of diversions like professional sports.

And San Antonio is already luring major corporations -- it's not as if the city is lacking in that department. There are at least 3 Fortune 25 corporations that have major enterprises in SA (Clear Channel, Valero, SBC). Toyota is bringing a plant here.

Adding a football team to what we already have certainly isn't going to hurt the City's chances to bring in new enterprise and increase the quality of life for the citizens of this area.

The idea that a professional football team won't offer benefits to San Antonio strikes me as the strawman argument of provincial Cowboys fans.

Oh no, the question isn't whether I'd pay or not to get NFL Sunday Ticket. I definately would pay to see the Cowboys. Seeing the Cowboys play means that much to me. But I'd resent the Saints for forking over money to see a team I once saw for free.

I disagree with you in this department. I think you're overestimating the value we have concerning the number of major corporations the city has. If this wasn't a concern, the NFL wouldn't be giving us the snub. And even though I realize LA is hurting us. I still feel that we'd be in the same predicament regardless of LA. Lacking enough corporate backing is definately a concern for the NFL aside from the TV Market.

Why can't I? There's a chance the Colts are going to relocate. If San Antonio waits and does everthing correct it can lure the Colts. The Saints can go to L.A. next year! Therefore, I get my pick of the Colts! I can wait!

Don't worry, If the Saints move to San Antonio, the league will do some realignment and place the Saints in the AFC, and the Jags will move to the NFC. Therefore Cowboy fans here in San Antonio will be happy and not have to pay to see Dallas play. So you won't resent the Saints, and possibly go to a game or two when Dallas plays on a Monday, Saturday or late night Sunday or during a by week. Makes too much sense!
