Here is what people say about the most influential player in NBA history:

    https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/book-you...174112161.html

Stay the away from him because he will use you. Sociopath.

There are three major aspects of influence in the NBA, the game (style, rule changes), philanthropic (making the world a better place, social issues), and commercial.

While it is without question Jordan ruled the commercial success of his days, and opened the door up for mass acceptance of NBA players as spokesmen and major brands, there were others with stronger influence on the style of the game. On Philanthropic topics, his history was horrific to say the least.

My own list, and including coaches (not just limited to players), in more or less chronological order:

    Style:
Russell and Cousy - Started the fast break type of play, with Russell turning defense into offense. Obviously Auerbach is important in this aspect as well
Maurice Stokes - The first point forward
Baylor - The first skywalker, above the rim player
West - combo guard, logo, shrewd executive
Big O - The first do everything big guard
Dan Issel/Bob McAdoo - Outside shooting bigs
Jack Ramsey - Made personal fitness a staple in basketball
Mikan / Wilt - All kinds of rule changes to help reduce the impact of ridiculous dominant big men and give the little guys a fair chance. But that was during the infancy of the game when rules were supposed to be changed
Magic / Bird - Make passing fun again
Ralph Sampson - Ball handling big with outside shooting
Chuck Daly - Defense defense defense. Dominated the entire NBA style in the 90s and early 00s.
Isiah Thomas - First scoring small guard to lead a team to championship, setting the path for players like Tim Hardaway, Allen Iverson, Kemba Walker, etc ....
Jordan - First scoring guard to lead a team to domination of the league. Paving the way for Penny, Grant Hill, Carter, TMac, Kobe, Stackhouse, etc ... The league also changed the rules to make it more aesthetically pleasing, and perimeter friendly in the quest for the next Jordan
Pippen - The cross between Magic and Lebron.
Rudy T. - Making the three a legitimate part of the game rather than a gimmick or end of game prayers. Of course it wouldn't have been possible without Hakeem
Robinson - Center with a small forward game, prototype of players like Garnett, and pretty much every big in today's game
    Riley - Cap management
Adelman --> Morey/D'antoni --> Pop --> Kerr/Curry - Taking the game back to the passing based game, currently dominating the league, and likely for the foreseeable future
Dirk - Sweet shooting PF that every PF now adays is trying to emulate (and without much success so far)

As much as I want to say Lebron, his combination of skill, size and basketball IQ is just so unparalleled that it is not really influential, you just can't duplicate a Lebron. Same goes for Shaq and Barkley.

    Philanthropic:
Russell, Kareem, Big O - civil rights for the black community
Mutombo - The guy builds communities
    Bol - ditto
    Robinson - Schools
    Magic/Amaechi/Collins/Duncan - Gay rights
Magic - serving financially under privileged areas
    Lebron/Pop/Kerr - current social issues

    Commercial:
Jordan is the king here, no dispute
    Clyde - First signature shoes
    Kobe - shoes, business, film
Lebron - a brand unto himself
    Shaq - see Lebron

Kobe. I don’t give a damn about that piece of , pretentious, attention .

Point was why are there people who hate him still obsessing over and talking about him?

He’s irrelevant now. Let him go.
    I let him go

He should actually be #2 or #3 most influential.
On this forum alone, he should be higher than anyone not named Pop or Duncan tbh
But 12th is fine you can definitely make a case to move him up or down a few spots but wgaf?!
