Most of you guys are being dramatic. Hes trying to avoid what happened to IT, dude fought through the injury just to lose in the playoffs and then have surgery in the off season, and missed the opportunity of getting a MAX deal. I don't think the Celtics would have gave him one but still was in the discussion of him getting one. This entire forum was on their knees for Kawhi last season and in the playoffs. He obviously got banged up last season in the playoffs with his ankles multiple times still tried playing through it and just couldnt. Then got the quad injury working hard in the off season tries to come back in the middle of the season and clearly didn't look right. Why in the world would he come back this season when it was clear they weren't going to win anything and injuring himself more before the biggest pay day of his life, Kawhi is not going anywhere.

Well he could be just playing it safe and will not play this season to heal 100%. The team must have asked him to not sit on the bench because it's a distraction. I have a feeling he is afraid to play for fear of a lingering injury with his quad.
However the Spurs should explore a trade with Lakers if they can get Ball, Ingram and Kuzma, 1st round pick and take on Deng's contract. Reason being this could turn into being injured every single season with this quad injury. If Magic wants Kawhi that bad and is willing to take the risk it might be worth it for Spurs long term even if Kawhi goes on to be healthy starting next season. Spurs could wind up with plenty of young talent to develop for Kawhi.
My guess would be Spurs will offer Kawhi the supermax out of loyalty.

The Spurs have a HISTORY of conservative injury return protocols, as well as taking care of players when they get older, making up for some of the pay they couldn't get on the front side of their careers on the back side. By saying he's worried about being IT'd, that says that he doesn't trust an organization built on trust. That broken trust will lead to his departure.
