The open bigotry of Trumpland is beginning to backfire on the racists
On Friday night, CNN’s Don Lemon asked a panel of black commentators if this is a new problem that’s getting worse.Yes, it’s had been this bad — it just wasn’t quite so obvious before, now even the reasonable but previously clueless white people are starting to notice.
They said it’s not getting worse—it’s always been this bad.
We have at least progressed past the argument that black people are “imagining their persecution” anymore. At least somewhat.
The only real question now has become:
is this sudden rash of racial incidents, from micro-aggressions to full on tirades and violent attacks begun to spread
because of the openly bigoted views of Donald Trump or are they merely coincidental?
Opinions vary.
It’s become so bad that Dr. Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. called for a boycott of Waffle House after a series of racist attacks.
Writing on Twitter, Dr. King stated: “Family, let’s stay out of @WaffleHouse until the corporate office legitimately and seriously commits to 1) discussion on racism, 2) employee training, and 3) other plans to change; and until they start to implement changes.”
She later added, “A @WaffleHouse employee called the police on #ChikesiaClemons after she asked for the number for the corporate office. Ms. Clemons was violated by police. Her breasts were exposed. It barely garnered national attention. Do #BlackLivesMatter? Do #BlackWomenMatter?”
Dr. King’s second tweet was in reference to an incident in Saraland, Alabama, where police yanked a black woman to the ground, partially unclothing her, after the Waffle House manger called them because the victim was arguing over having to pay for plastic utensils.
This Waffle House incident with a teenager who had went there with his prom date is just one among many that have occurred in recent weeks.
