yep. tore the meniscus in the same knee, less than a year and a half ago, in preseason

    http://www.espn.com/mens-college-bas...quires-surgery

    worthy of additional concern
Yea I believe the same leg
Thanks guys. Definitely not a good sign 2 tears in the same knee before age 20.

I can't remember, but Ron Artest did the quicker option (which I think was to remove the meniscus) when he was playing for the Lakers trying to get back for the playoffs. He was never the same after that and was pretty much done.

I agree that the Spurs should take the long term option if it's possible. I think repairing it is the better way to go. Someone correct me if I am wrong, though.

This really does suck because I wanted to see this kid play more than anyone else on the team.
Dwyane Wade also did the quicker option when he was in college. I remember hearing Wade say in an interview recently that if he could have done it all over again that he wouldn't have had the meniscus removed. Wade said the reasoning for this is because he believes he would have been able to play at a higher level longer.

Thats true but wasn’t Artest old by then anyway. I’m not sure it was the injury as much as the age.

Spurs might have to think about getting a new medical staff. I don't know if they missed something, but if they did, they need to take a long, hard look at their medical staff.
Injuries like this can't be prevented. The kid is unfortunately injury prone which is why he fell as low as he did in the draft.

Torn meniscus early in your career?

You'll never be the same again -- just ask Tim Duncan and Russell Westbrook.

Drunkford can't even hire a proper medical staff. Atrocity of a GM without Duncan spraying cologne on his stinky

Yeah, this sucks. The silver lining is that it's only his meniscus and not a ligament. And it's better that it's medial and not lateral.

But it's pretty damn bad news because he already suffered a torn meniscus in his right knew while at Miami. I've never been able to find out whether they removed or tried to repair his meniscus at Miami. With this latest news, I'm assuming they tried to repair it ... but he returned to Miami pretty fast if it was indeed a repair job. Those usually keep you out longer.

With the 6-to-8 week timeline, it sounds like the plan is now to go in there and remove part of the meniscus. Most players recover their athleticism after such a procedure (Russell Westbrook had a couple medial meniscus surgeries about five years ago) so it's not the end of the world. Meniscus issues are usually career-shortening injuries rather than career-threatening. So in about 10 years or so, Walker IV will likely really start feeling that bone-on-bone discomfort that Tim Duncan dealt with starting in his early 30s.

If Walker IV had his lateral meniscus removed at Miami and is getting his medial meniscus removed on Monday, that's be really bad news. That'd put him in Brandon Roy territory (Roy had both removed in each knee). Hopefully we'll hear more specifics but given the state of the Express-News, I'm not holding my breath.

That's the problem with a lot of these hot shot high flyers. They think they're invincible and don't have to be smart about how they conduct themselves, day to day; and then a freak injury comes.

    Wow.... what luck!

Spurs down to just 13 players guaranteed.

How do you manage a 19 year old athletic player who's body seems to be breaking down from all the stress? Place him on ice for a year?
