But I think the good thing about Trump is he's helped distance the GOP from religion a bit. That will really help the party survive in the long run as the US becomes less and less religious like Europe. Note Trump seldom or never talks about God the way that the Bushes or McCain or Romney or past traditional GOP types have.

yeah, the ship has sailed on gay marriage, and yes, if you are viewing the political landscape through the lens of that one issue, then sure, it has shifted left

but once it became legalized/accepted and society and marriage didnt fall apart, all the people who opposed it because "its gross" or "its always been this way!" stopped caring
