More pressure if team to stack though
It would surprise me if the team didn’t promote from within. That might mean someone currently on staff, or an assistant/former player that has moved on. Either way, that puts Self on the outside looking in IMO.
Somebody mentioned Carlisle. See above, but if I’m him there is no way I’m walking away from Luka at this point unless I’m forced out. The Mavs seem pretty okay with what they’ve got and what he’s brought as a coach, so I don’t see that happening.
It’s not very realistic, but as a pure fan I’d love to see Manu on the bench in any role he would accept. I’m not sure he could relay his instincts for the game, but man I miss his leadership and will to win.
If it is Becky, I’m okay with that based on her professional resume and summer league accomplishments. I just hope she is given the time and free reign to rebuild. If that was ever to happen, SA might be the place.
No matter what your opinion of Pop is, I think we can all agree that we are on the cusp of a MAJOR transition and that we will have an answer to this question very soon. Strange but exciting times I guess...
Also, I’ve heard iterations of that Ime story from friends and fans and it always gives me pause to reconsider the quite but effective role player I loved and unassuming assistant I saw on the sidelines. It is hard for me to gauge his value as a head coach as his contributions as an assistant were largely behind the scenes, but if there is a shred of truth to that story I’m down.

As great of a coach that Popovich has been, looking at the playoffs I’m still wondering how coaches get more out of players that he either trade or let walk. And then the flip side if things, when we get a player from another team that has five good things, he looks lost under Popovich (derozen, Aldridge, Jefferson)
while it's very unlikely that the nets nab pop... if that were to happen, hopefully it's soon rather than later so that the spurs can land kenny atkinson before philly does...

not that it’s #1 on pop’s list but BKN could offer him so much in liquid assets.

most people, myself included, wanted atkinson. he's with the warriors now though.

There is no reason Atkinson could not be obtained, he's an assistant in GS. Well, there is one reason, we have a coach at the moment.
Damn if Pop doesn't get the record this year then we will have to go through another year of grandpa driving.
